If your kitchen and dinning room are one and are small use one color...preferbly a neutral. Try a toupe, cappuccino, dimmed yellow or an off white. If you have a larger space, try something darker like a cranberry, brown, ....warmer tones take on a more inviting feel for entertaining. I have a smaller, and used a light tone of mocha. with dark brown cabinets, stainless steel fixtures/appliances, under cabinet lighting, and some glass shelving inthe kitchen and dinning area. I love it , get loads of compliments and we always end up in the kitchen....

Look out the window of your dining room and kitchen and notice what colors are showing up. This is seasonal depending on where you live so take that into consideration. In general you should match with what you see from your, furnishings, what is viewable from your windows and how each color flows from one room to the next.
Look through door ways and notice which wall color you see. The room you are painting should compliment those and vice versa. What you dont want is a color change that makes you go "whoa" becaause of the striking difference.
Mixing black with white is a very bold and exciting choice. For the home, we see the black and white in tile, floors and in the foyer or the bathroom.
Red is another bold color when decorating a room. It's perceived as a warm color.
Orange is also a popular color and can be a soft peach, ripe mango, tangerine, salmon or coral. Because orange is such a saturated color, many people will be more comfortable using it in small doses because our eyes tire of that color first.
Yellow greens are the only color that mixes well with just about any color on a wheel.
Blue and purple colors are comfortable, soothing, cooling and refreshing. Blue is an ascending color that means it can make your space look larger. Blue is a very important color this year.
More information about choosing paint colors which is pretty much the same as choosing a wallpaper color can be found at decormotif.com

I used the Sherman Williams paint color web site and painted kitchen and dining room walls with colors I thought might be compatible. The colors I choose were: Library pewter for the trim and wainscoting and heron plume for the wall of my kitchen. I choose navajo white (which is closer to a beige) for my dining room. I really like the way the colors work together. The Library pewter is especially complimentary.

Chose your favorite color and lighten it up a few shades, you can't go wrong doing this as you will have picked something that pleases you and you will enjoy living with what you have chosen. I do know that you should stay far away from the color red, if you notice most of your restaurants have this color or some shades of it because it supposedly triggers the brain to eat! Have fun with your decorating.

Your favorite color. Whatever it is. But, yellow seems to be the color of kitchens that murderers like to kill their spouse in. So, I will not use yellow in my kitchen. Maybe the dining room would look good in yellow. Kitchen in blue?

Blues and greens are cool and soothing, blue will decrease the appetite or so they claim.
Orange, Reds and bright yellows are warm colors, will stimulate the appetite.
What color is your carpeting and countertops, what is on your dining room chairs, all of this must be accounted for.

for kitchens and dining rooms, yellow and red are in 2006
word is, earth tones and gold will be in for 2007.
an easy way to tell what color are expected to be IN for a year is to go look at new appliances......but that is not always accurate....remember when there were all those black appliances out there????/they didn't sell anything like the manufacturers thought they would

I looove a pale sea foam green with white countertops and trim in kitchens and if you have a rather large dining room a deep scarlet trimmed with a few gold pieces would look beautiful

Go with a warm beige or light gold. Then you can accent in different colors in each room but they will tie in because of the warmth on the walls.

I just painted my kitchen a light tan color, my dining room denim blue and my living room a darker tan color. I like it.
