I need to find a flea killer that is no toxic for my cat and home?

I do not want to use any chemicals what so ever I have a young child. So please home remedies only

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and live in the country so I have multiple way to combat fleas. I will list the most frequently used methods though you can search the web for some recipes for spot treatments...

1. Borax... ya know that cheap detergent additive... usually costs less than 2 dollars a box... well for carpet...furniture... and hard floors... sprinkle liberally on all above surfaces leave for a couple hours then vacuum ... the borax dehydrates the fleas (note: because it will not kill eggs you will have to retreat after 2 weeks to kill newly hatched larvae and then only as new fleas are brought in)

2. Dawn dish soap... mix 4 oz dawn dish-soap with 16 oz water into a liquid spreader (typically used to spread fertilizer on lawns) set concentration to the highest setting and spray lawn liberally (this will usually last 30 days unless there is excessive amounts of rainfall) and is much cheaper than lawn treatments for fleas

3. pets... wash pets with Nexxus AloeRid shampoo (only found in styling salons sorry...) but this is less drying on pets than dawn dish-soap, works better than dawn, and the aloe keeps fleas from jumping back on the animal after it's bathed for a day or two. You only need to use a pea size drop of shampoo for a small breed up to a quarter size drop for a large breed.


These methods are relatively cheap and do work


also... someone mentioned the use of citrus rinds... boiling lemons in water then after cooling sponge skin will keep fleas from jumping on you. Fleas also do not like the smell of citronella (lemon grass oil), lavender, and eucalyptus... you can dilute the above essential oils with other oils and other certain liquids to create homeopathic spot treatments similar to the chemical types that are all natural just be careful as if the solution is too strong it can cause skin irritations to you and the animal.

You need to go to your vet and get Revolution. It's a liquid you put between your cat's shoulder blades. Then you have to keep your child away from the cat for 24 hours. Let your cat have the run of the house. The way that it works is that it makes the fleas that bite your cat sterile so that they cannot breed. It might take a month or two to get rid of them completely, because the eggs that were already laid will hatch and bite too, but eventually they should all die of old age. I used this sucessfully on my two cats, and I'm allergic to just about everything!
Burning citrus rinds can cause inflammation in people with asthma, and accidental ingestion of pennyroyal can cause poisoning in children and miscarriage in pregnant women, so you have to be careful with those.

Please do NOT use any of those home remedies, you can easily kill your cats and dog. Dish detergent is dangerous, it strips the oil fromt he skin, causes horrible allergies, and can get down the pet's throat and poison it. Nothing else works except a topical flea preventative like Frontline or Advantage. There are products for dogs and products for cats. You put this on the back of the animals neck, part the fur and put on skin. You do this every single month without fail, and you will have no more fleas. Anything "cheap" or "natural" is at best a waste of time and money and at worst, can harm your animals - a lot.

I don't think there are any home remedy flea killers. I know that if you spray yourself with citrus juices or burning citrus fruits' rinds keeps mosquitos away, but I dont know if it applies to fleas. It might work, try it. If those don't work, get a medicine like Advantage. You apply it to the back of your cat's neck, and just tell your child to not touch the cats neck for a day. It'll be soaked into the cat's skin by then. It lasts a month, too.

Even water, in large enough quantities, is "toxic". I mean, if you inhale too much water, what happens?

If you want something to kill a living being, it will be, at some level, toxic. There is no way around it. And, the quicker the chemical doing the killing, the less you have to use it, and therefore, the less you'll expose a cat to the toxin.

Home remedies can be just as dangerous as chemicals you buy.

Deflea is a natural flea and tick spray (also availible in a shampoo) that is safe for cats, kittens, nursing mothers and to use on your carpet and furniture. I just used it on my 4 week old kitten. If you can use it on a 4 week old kitten, it should be safe for your kid.

My kitty had fleas years ago and I tried everything and nothing helped. Then someone recommended Prell Shampoo. I tried it and it worked like magic. Try shampooing your kitty with some smelly fragrant shampoo. Good luck.

Oh and wash all bedding and pillows, rugs and etc...

Go to the herb shop and get some pennyroyal. put it a pot and make a solution. you can rub it on your car and use a spray bottle to the carpets and furniture. it does work. look up pennyroyal on the internet. it should give you some help on how to make it

a 50/50 mix of water and febreeze. it won't kill em, but it will keep em off the cat. they don't like the smell. works great on ticks also, again, it won't kill em but it will keep em off. can be used in your lawn also to drive em away. good for dogs also
