You're doing the right thing! It's better to have her in a kennel at night then dead. Anway, most dogs like their kennel - dogs have a natural instinct to want something over their head at night (rooting from their wolf ancestors who sleep in caves!)

You're doing just fine. My shepherd has been kennel trained, and she thinks that's her little spot of the house. She gets aggitated if she can't get the door open to go inside when she wants, and often, she'll go in on her own accord to sleep. They enjoy the security. It would only be inhumane if they had to stay in there 24/7. Many experts will tell you that kenneling is good. It helps with potty training, and again, it gives the dog a since of security. When my dog thinks she's in trouble, that's the first place she runs to. It's her hideout. :)

I think you're doing the right thing, its better to be safe then sorry. I personally dont think its right to keep dogs in kennels 24/7, but at night im all for it. She'll grow up sooner or later and then you wont have to worry about her chewing up things. My baby is 6 years old and sleeps with me. I dont have to worry about her jumping off the bed though since she is only 6 pounds lol. She snuggles with me all night long. She has always been really good though, never really gotten into anything. Ha listen to me ramble, anyways No I dont think that its inhumane to keep her in a kennel at night :)

Nope, kennel training your dog is an excellent thing to do. Let's say that you were having a bunch of people over for games or movie night. Or just a regular old party. If things get too loud or exciting, your dog could get stepped on or kicked by accident, never mind being overexcited and someone getting nipped or knocked down by accident. Kennel training just gives them a place that is their own. Somewhere safe and happy. Plus if you ever travel with her to visit people, having her kennel to sleep in is a bit of security for her. It's like having her own room that she can travel with. As long as it's size appropriate for her breed, i don't see anything inhumane about it.

That is just fine. I did the same thing when my dog was young. If I or my husband got up during the night we would let him outside to use the bathroom, and then put him back in his pet taxi. I was afraid of the same thing. He never chewed on anything he wasn't supposed to, so as he got a little older we started letting him out at night. We just always keep a toy & a rawhide bone out for him to chew on & never had a problem. If you see him chewing on something he shouldn't, just say "NO" in a very firm voice, and if needed pat him on the bottom with a rolled up newspaper. That worked for our Chihuaha....he hates paper of any kind tho now.
Also, leave the pet taxi door open during the day so he can go in and out of it during the day. Our dog is 6 yrs old now and sometimes sleeps in it during the day.

I used to think kennels were inhuman(or incanine), but I have learned over the years it's the best way to train a new dog. It also becomes their refuge, their room. They enjoy going in to sleep, play or even eat. I highly recommend them to you since she enjoys chewing wires. That can be corrected, just as any training. Enjoy your puppy!

I have a sweet little Pom and she is crate trained. I actually adopted her after my Dad passed away, as she was his doll; as he called her... He had been given her by some friends after my Mom passed away. They got her from a lady who had her from when she was a puppy and had crate trained her from that time. The original lady was going into assisted living and could not take the dog with her. So my Dad was thrilled, as he was an animal lover; as am I. Of course I agreed to keep her when he started having health problems. She will actually ask to go into her crate at night, and will also go in if it is too noisy or she just wants some quiet time. She is perfectly happy in there. If she goes in the car for a ride, she is very content in the crate. Most vets and dog trainers will recommend crate training, as it gives the dog a safe place of their own. Your dog sounds as if she is fine and quite content. Enjoy the puppy, I'm sure she is a cutie pie. Have a good night!

My cocker spaniel sleeps in his kennel every night! He's 4! If a dog is use to a kennel it's like their own little den, their own room you could say! When you say to my dog its bed time, he runs to his kennel wagging his tail! Most dogs feel safe in their kennels, plus putting her in there is preventing her from being destructive and possibly hurting herself! Keep up the good work!!!

My dog sleeps in her kennel every night she often puts herself to bed by going in there on her own. I think it is a good thing. She has a space that is all hers. Dogs like small spaces to curl up in.
It is completely humane.

unless she is still having accidents i would not put her in a kennel. when a dog is allowed to 'run' around the house during the day, it wants to be able to sleep normal also. try keeping her bedding in the spot where the kennel is (get rid of it). put the food up, they dont need to eat during the night (you will end up taking it out during the night). give the dog something of yours that you dont need anymore to sleep with. sounds like puppy wants 'mommy'. also if she is not fixed, do so that will settle her down more. this is what i did with bandit
