My aunt would like me to help make her dessert for friday and has provided the following ingredients:
jelly mix, swiss roll, custard, mixed fruit can, whipped cream, and creme anglais.

Do I place pieces of the swiss roll in a bowl, pour jelly on top and let it set, then place the fruit on top, and then custard, whipped cream, and decorate?

Please help! I've never made it before, just sort of guessed. Recipes online include alcohol and biscuits so am confused.

Thanks for the answers, but my aunt wants jelly in it - so where does the jelly go?

A trifle is a layered desert. If you have a glass bowl, the staighter the sides the better, use it because the trifle is for show as well as taste.

Cut up the swiss roll and make a layer in the bottom. Spread some jam on top then add some fruit and then custard then another layer of roll, jam, fruit and custard. continue to do this until the you either run out of ingredients then top it off with maybe a couple pieces of fruit for garnish, the whipped crean and the Creme Anglais.

The nice thing about a trifle is that with the different layers you also get a little of everything in one spoon full.

Oh, and if there is enough whipped cream I would place some on the side because people tend to like to add more! lol!

I hope this helps and good luck!

PEANUT BUTTER TRIFLE

1 pkg. chocolate cake mix
2 pkgs. (10 ounces each) peanut butter chips
4 1/2 cups cold milk, divided
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
2 pkgs. instant chocolate pudding mix (reg. size)
1 regular carton Cool Whip (thawed)
3 Nestle's Crunch candy bars, crumbled

Prepare cake according to the box. Cool completely.

In a heavy saucepan, combine the peanut butter chips, 1/2 cup milk and heavy cream. Cook and stir over low heat until the chips are melted.

Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Cool for a few minutes.

Place remaining 4 cups of milk in a mixing bowl with instant pudding mixes and beat on low speed for 2 minutes.

To assemble the trifle:

Crumble half of cake into a trifle bowl or a large bowl. (You may not need to use the entire cake, or another option is to bake the cake in two 8" pans and then use only one of the cakes for the recipe).

Layer with half of the peanut butter sauce, then half of the pudding, half of the Cool Whip, and half of the crumbled candy bars.

Repeat these layers one more time. Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours.

4 1/2 cups dried apricots
6 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
3/4 cup superfine sugar
Juice of 1 lemon
Juice of 1/2 an orange or tangerine
1/2 pandoro cake (a 1-pound piece)
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup Greek yogurt
3 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup raw shelled pistachio nuts, chopped into splinters
1/4 cup sliced almonds.

In a saucepan, combine apricots, cardamom pods, sugar, lemon juice and orange juice. Add 6 cups water and stir. Place over high heat to bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes. Drain apricots (pick out and discard cardamom pods and seeds), reserving liquid.
Return apricot liquid to saucepan and boil until reduced to about 1 1/2 cups, 15 to 20 minutes. Set aside to cool. Slice pandoro vertically into 1/2-inch wide wedges. Arrange half of the slices across bottom of a trifle bowl. Top with half the apricots and half the syrupy apricot liquid. Arrange remaining pandoro slices evenly in bowl, and top with remaining apricots and liquid. If desired, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a day or overnight to allow liquid to be absorbed into cake. To serve, whip heavy cream until peaks form. Add yogurt, beating again just until combined. Layer whipped cream mixture on top of trifle and drizzle with honey. Mix pistachios with almonds, and sprinkle on top. Serve immediately. Yield: 8 servings.

Trifle is an English desert and is supposed to be made from left over cake. Jelly is no part of it - that is an American aberration. Also Trifle is supposed to have Sherry in it.
Iy should also be made with Fresh Fruit - not canned fruit.
