The thing that taught me the most about writing macros is a technique I use to this day to make writing them easier. I do Tools, Macros, Record New Macro

I do what I want my macro to do, stop recording and then look over the macro. Then I make adjustments and duplicate code I want to perform multiple times, etc. If I forget a function in excel, I record a macro and it shows me in the recorded macro, using the proper syntax and everything!

some free training/tutorials at the following URLs [and NO this is not spam ... i've just used these to help friends who were always hounding me for help lol]

http://www.educationonlineforcomputers.com/ (has some free ones, then some u'd have to pay for ...just do the free ones)

http://www.fgcu.edu/support/office2000/

some help type documents at this site :
http://www.willamette.edu/wits/resources/docs/software/msoffice/

and at this site is a quick ref summary
http://www.scsite.com/off2000/qr.cfm

and as someone else suggested you can use the full help system in office [or just excel if that is all u have installed]

...you also could do a search engine search for excel tutorials/training/ whatever particular topic is giving u issues ...
OR try to find sample spreadsheets that are similar to what you are looking to create .... learning by example seems to fall by the wayside when people age ... but it works great ... just ask my 13 month old lolol

There's probably better sites, but check this one out for macros:

http://www.helpwithpcs.com/tipsandtricks/tips_excel_menu.htm

Check this one out for basics and moderate use:

http://einstein.cs.uri.edu/tutorials/csc101/pc/excel97/excel.html

Check this one out for lots of basic, moderate, advanced, and very advanced use. Check out the lessons on the left and the examples in the middle.
