My husband and I are trying to decide what kind of church we'd like to start attending. Does anyone know of a book that outlines different religions? I've tried the "Religion for Dummies" and it doesn't talk about many different ones.

We just want to see what each believes so we can kinda get an idea of which one will fit for us. My husband was Catholic and I grew up Baptist, so we just want to see what else is out there that might better suit us and our family.

Very good question...but yet not too clear.
Are you seeking 'church' as in a Christian faith, or are you seeking any type of religion?
From your question, saying you and your husband are looking for a kind of Chrurch, I will assume you are seeking Christianity, and on the basis I will give you a pointer.

For starters, do not rely heavily of one particular book to guide you as to what is the best church, the likelyhood is that some maybe bias.
Secondly, I will offer a piece of History that may assist your decision.
Christianity in the early centuries, did not have denominations...There was no Catholic, no Orthodox, no prespeterian, no baptist...etc. What was available back then, was a COMPLETE CHURCH. It has everything in that the Lord Jesus Christ tought and instructed His disciples and His people to do. But unfortunately, due to satan's envy, he entered into the heart of men the feelings of doubt, hatred, confussion, and worst of all, pride...and that is when different denominations started to break away.
Having said that, note my words carefully, I did not say that the 'Church Started Falling Apart', I said that certain denominations started 'breaking away'...I mean, they broke away from the completness and fullness of the one body of Christ, therefore, the Original Church that has been existing from the 1st century is still there, and it has not changed, its teachings are the same, its practices are unchanged for 2000 years, just the way the Lord Christ intended.

The question to that you should ask is this..."where is this 2000 year old Church that has been unchanged orthodox in its teachings and practices that will lead you to your ultimate Goal, that is Christ?"

Try reading "The Handy Religion Answer Answer Book" by Dr. John Renard. In His book, he will give you not only History of All Major Religions, but also detailed analysis of History of the Christian Church too.

But more importantly than reading any book, Ask God to guide you to His Truth. Have faith that Truth and The Path He designed is definative and absolute, and Let Him Guide you.

I hope this helps...God Bless.

Yes the Bible. If we believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for your sins then you need to study your Bible. 2 Timothy 2: 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. When you learn the doctrine for today, which is different from what God was doing in time past, the you can find a church that is teaching correct doctrine. Remember we are living in the age of grace and we are not under the law of Moses. Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Romans 6: 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

If you are a Christian you should pick a church that does not vary from the Bible or interpret the teachings of Christ in a different way. I belong to a church called the Vineyard and it is Bible centered, has very contemporary services and relates the Bible directly to my everyday life. i was raised as a Catholic and found that I got nothing from what they were saying.

different religions I can't help you with. But if your looking for a good christian church, you can use a book by Mark Dever called "9 Marks of a Healthy Church." It focuses on the main things that a church needs to be strong at and be healthy.

I'm really sorry, but I don't!

You could start by researching organized religions like: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, etc. and deciding which of those you like the ideas of most and then research major religions of that organization. For example, if you enjoy the views of Christianity you could look up such religions as: Protestantism, Catholicism, Mormonism, etc.

Another alternative would be reading different religions' books: the Bible, Book of Mormon, Quron, etc.

You should choose the church that I go to...we are the only ones who interpret scripture correctly, therefore we are the only ones who will go to Heaven, all other "christian" churches are of the devil and the people will all burn in hell.

I wish I could tell you the name of my church, but the bible tells us only a very small amount of humans will make it into heaven and that we should keep the doomed from entering our church...I just spoke with God and He says you and your husband are both hellbound...so it really does not matter what church you pick, you will be going to hell. Sorry to tell you this...but God is never wrong you know.

each have a different look on things I do not know if I believe all of any particular one. Look at the Churches in your area and ask if they teach from the Bible. One thing I liiked fo rwas communion did the church believe that in taking WAS the Body and Blood of Christ or was it symbolic of. . . when I found the one that WAS . . . I was home.

Read the Bible and start attending Church. If the church you attend does not line up to the law and the testimony, if they speak not according to this word they have no light in them.

Why not pray and ask God to lead you to a church where He wants you? You need to seek His advice, because He knows what type of teacher and leader you need. Don't take choosing a church lightly.....May God lead and guide you.....
