I think the words shut up has been so overused that i think everybody has thought of it as casual language that appears so often that it doesn't really offend me.

Hope I helped! Good Luck!

It depends on whats going on and why it's being said. It would offend me if some little kid came up to me and said that. It would not offended me if a friend of mine used it as a slang for "no way" or "get out of here".

Shut up is two words. I don't find it offensive because there's a lot worse stuff someone could say to me, and usually if someone is going to tell me to shut up, I'm anticipating it because I know I'm annoying them.

Often words used can offend or not depending on the context of how they are used. It can be very rude depending on how you use it.

The phrase "shut up" is a statement of disrespect. It means that they not only disapprove of what you said, but also of you. It's called invalidation. Anything said to "put you down" is a type of invalidation.
