They did a study in England recently, half of the kids getting shots watched cartoons the other half watched nothing. The kids watching the cartoons were reported as feeling minimal to no pain. The other half were reported to feeling pain and crying.

Bring a CD player and listen to music through your headphones or if you have one a portable DVD player. It couldn't hurt and has shown to help. Also, don't tense up and make sure that you move the affected area alot after the shot so that you do not get sore.

1) Look in the opposite direction.
2) Tell the Dr. NOT to let you know when they're going to do it.
3) Have whoever is there with you for support engage you in conversation, or even sing a little song to mentally distract you.

Close your eyes or look away and ask the person to pinch up the skin on your arm a little a couple of time - not hard, of course and then give you the shot while heor she is pinching. That helped me when I was getting depo-provera shots.

Well, don't look at the needle and relax your arm. At 15, i still get a little nervous when I get shots, but it'll be over soon. Funny thing is, sometimes it hurt alot and sometimes is wasn't bad at all. Good luck and be tough!
