usatoday.com Man arrested in Colorado dragging death CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) — A man was arrested in the gruesome dragging death of a woman after a stained and tattered photograph of him was found at the crime scene, police said Wednesday.
Jose Luis Rubi-Nava, 36, was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of murder and jailed without bail. Investigators said they were still trying to identify the victim, who was dragged behind a vehicle with a rope, leaving a trail of blood more than a mile long.

Authorities did not immediately respond to questions about how the photograph ended up near the woman's body, which was discovered Monday in a suburban neighborhood about 20 miles south of Denver.

The picture shows a couple who appear to be in their 30s, with the man leaning his arm on the woman's shoulder. Investigators did not say whether the woman in the picture was the victim.

The photo had been released to the public, and Sheriff Dave Weaver said tips from citizens helped lead to the arrest. Weaver offered no motive for the killing, and the sheriff's department did not respond to repeated requests by phone and in writing for more information.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Carl Rusnok said agents believe Rubi-Nava is an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

At a court appearance Wednesday afternoon, Rubi-Nava listened through a translator as District Judge Paul A. King formally told him the charge he faces.

King sealed the arrest warrant affidavit, which outlines the preliminary allegations against Rubi-Nava, at the request of public defender Kathleen McGuire. King said he would consider McGuire's request for a gag order.

Neighbors discovered the woman's body before dawn. Her face was unrecognizable and an orange tow rope was around her neck, said Nancy Foley, who lives nearby.

An autopsy indicated the woman died of asphyxiation and head injuries from being dragged.

The trail of blood led from Interstate 25 to the woman's body, which was found on a street lined with large ranch-style homes on spacious lots. On Wednesday, highway crews were spreading fresh tar over the roads to cover the traces of blood.

So they sealed the arrest warrant and want a gag order?

Wow...illegals get lots of built in protection...if this were done by a legal citizen, there would be no "privacy" allowed!

I think this is indicative of the insane, lopsided treatment of the illegals...the criminal....against the rights of Americans.

SAVE THE LIVES OF THOSE IN OUR COUNTRY BY DEPORTING THESE CRIMINALS.....BEFORE ANY MORE HEINOUS CRIMES ARE COMMITTED.

This is just sad, horrible proof that we have got to get rid of these people in America once in for all. It was in the news a week or so ago, 2 border agents were fired and seeking jail-time for shooting an illegal immigrant who was trafficking drugs , in the *** because he wouldn't hault and had been arrest multiple times before for drug trafficking. He had over 800 pounds of marijuana in his van during the shooting. The real burner was the US government took him to a Texas hospital and healed him at the cost of the tax payers, then grant him immunity from prosecution for his testimony agents the 2 agents who now face 20 years in prison. Even more disgusting is he is suing the US for $5million for violating his civil rights, despite being illegal and not having rights to begin with. You can read it here : http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1688447/posts

It's time for these people to go once and for all , they are a threat to our rights as US citizens, a burden on the tax-payers and essentially a security threat with reports like these. Anyone right now without a greencard or passport should be rounded up immediately and locked off from the US for an eternity and face imprisonment in a place like Gitmo, off of the US mainland if they ever return. It's time to stand up people and protect your rights as a US citizen, or else we all best learn Spanish really fast and get ready to live in the sewers.

I hope they find more evidence, or he'll likely get off due to circumstances.

Sometimes the only way to stay in America and not earn a living is by committing a heinous crime. Sounds like this guy is hopeing for life in prison.

You're actually trying to judge an entire culture of people by one demented man's actions? Is that the only story you could find to post? If WE were to judge America by the many serial killers and criminals then I doubt anyone would want to come here. Yes all societies have their creeps and violent persons. Is YOUR race free of any crime? If so let me know because I've yet to here of a culture that's crime-free.

Don't try to use this story to overgeneralize a group of people. My dad's an undocumented worker and he isn't a criminal.

So I suppose this is worst because it was a illegal immigrant who did it. So when a 49-year-old black man, was intentionally dragged behind a truck in such a way that his head and right arm were severedt in Texas in 1998 by American citizens, what of that?

This is tragic. Should we assume that guarding our border is now a more essential piece of national security? Absolutely not. Where one is born has nothing to do with their worth as a person, and laws are not created to be enforced and then justified by "it's the law!" One should be able to back up laws with moral, economic and scientific reason, and if not, it should be repealed.

Racism is alive and well, and it saddens me to no end.

That is one who will be going to jail for being illegal and a criminal but it doesn't help in the total picture of illegals running over our government. What happened to our govt?
