Everyone has missed the most important thing here. In order to watch HDTV, you first need to have an HDTV source.

Most common sources for HDTV:

HDTV broadcast over the air and picked up using an antenna. Note that your HDTV must have the HD tuner built into the TV for this to work. If it doesn't, you will need to buy an external HD tuner.

HDTV via Digital Cable (not all digital cable is HDTV!)

HDTV via satellite (just because it's digital satellite doesn't mean it's HDTV!)

HDTV via the two new High Definition DVD formats; Blue Ray and HD-DVD

Once you have your source in place, then you need the right connection between the HD source and the HDTV. The following connections are the ONLY way to get HDTV;

Component Video (the red, green, blue three cable connection)

DVI (less common today than a few years ago but found on many sets bought over the last few years)

HDMI

All other connections cannot support HDTV!

That is an EDTV; without HDMI/DVI input it is not true HDTV and the wiring you use may not have any option; they could conceivably carry ED signal, but that's the extend of their maximum since there's no HDMI option.

The last variable in the equation is the content: are you using HD DVD player? Subscribing to HD satellite channels? Using XBox 360 in HD mode instead of standard mode? It sounded so far that all of them so far is sending standard video signal that would otherwise go to a regular TV.

Standard is about 320x240 by computer term, EDTV is about 1.5x of that, HDTV is about 4x of that (in each direction, not the whole area). EDTV is the term that politically-corrected reference to starting with the discovery that sets of fake HDTV without HDMI flooded the market. So while the technology is out for a while it is still bleeding-edge at this point

If your DVD player has progressive support make sure it is enabled. The 360 needs component hookups to get any where near it's capabilities. The satellite box has the support and receive HD channels and would end up outputting to the TV over component. For that call the satellite company I am sure they will be willing to hook you up.

if its an hd tv then it should have an hdmi input somewhere. see if you have a red green and blue connection, similar to an rca. also. dvd, is not hd, not even close. and that goes for the silly upscale as well. you cannont transfer an hd signal through component, or rca cables. its too much info. as far as satellite goes, you have to pay extra for an hd reciever. and you have to have hd cables.

It sounds like you doing the best with what you have to work with. If you want to improve on that, you need to get a receiver with video upscaling and run everything through it -and voila!

H a p p y
H o m e
T h e a t e r i n g !
