The surest and easiest way to lower your score is to improve your short game. You need to have less than 22 chips and putts combined over 9 holes. If it is more you chances of shooting 50 or better are very very poor. Keep track of all chips inside 30 yards and all putts on the green. get a good book say Dave Pelz putting bible and 6 months after mastering that Dave Pelz short game bible. A good video would also help, ask around you can probably borrow one from a friend. If necessary a few lessons on the short game from a PGA professional would help immensely. Once you short game is consistent and below 23 stoke over 9 holes you can start to work on you swing.

90% of your swing is mental. Most people think to much when at the ball. Just relax and don't try to kill the ball. The only other thing you have to remember is keep your head down

don't grip the club with you palms, use your fingers. i took 11 strokes off 18 with that alone!! don't swing hard, just contact the ball, the club will take care of the distance....and about keeping your head down....well, don't dwell on it, a lot of people get all hung up on the little stuff and just get overloaded...HAVE FUN!!
