think that having or using a psychic ability is an evil thing?
would this not be considered a gift from god? and as such should it not be used for the betterment of all man kind?

Interesting question.
The bible was written by men that heard inspiring messages from a voice they claim was God, they are called prophets.
People that hear inspiring messages this day in age are accused of hearing demons and called charlatans. Even people/psychics that do not charge for their services are ridiculed.
Double standard?

I think most Christians jump to the conclusion that psychic abilities originate from the realm of the demonic and are not open to other understandings of the nature and possibilities that you suggest, although I agree with you that it is a gift/ability that is inherent in most, if not all, human beings, and that it is of God --and therefore has the potential to be used for good.

Not too long ago I discussed with a young woman the problems associated with being a Christian psychic--she did not know what to do with her abilities and whether she should admit she had them --or even try to suppress her premonitions. In looking for resources that might help her, there was surprisingly little available that might offer her support and direction. So your question is certainly an apt one!

Fundamentalists of any denomination are pretty dodgy and usually the cause of all the wars. Perhaps they can look at this before starting another war.

If this harmless example isn’t flagged by someone with a narrow mind it proves a good point. And if you do want to flag it try watching till the end before your narrow vision gets the better of you again.

"The mere suggestion of an image or idea can evoke heavy emotions."

So begins Irene Kai's "What Do You See?," some images that challenge the reader's assumptions and judgments. The photos serve as a mirror for the readers to look deeper within themselves. http://www.whatdoyouseenow.com/

this is one of those I am the leader and anything that puts my job in danger is bad kinda preaching
the ones in it for the wrong reasons say that there are no profits today, yet in Romans 12:1-6 prophesy is a gift given to the body of Christ (that means the chuch (congregation) of today in bible speak
you see if there are prophets they might point out error and many are afraid of that.

there is a scripture they use where a king of old was told not to consult necromancers. Those were non-believing sorcerers.
Obviously lovers of God can have these supernatural powers sometimes. The same Holy Spirit that filled Jesus (did He do supernatural stuff or what) fills real chrisyians of today.

so the reason is fear someone will blow their cover

speaking of covers the republican party has kept the cover on this see this site

because what you call "psychic" abilities or powers is not from God, but from Satan. It just shows that you don't want to believe God, but skirt the issue. However, God hates those who practice divination, sorcery and the like, how can condemn and hate it in one area and saction it in another. Paul said something of this. This is your mind set "let us do evil that good may result, or if by my sin, God is glorified why am i condemned being a sinner, is not God unjust - God forbid!" God also says there is a way that seems right to a man but the end there of is death.

Prophets in the new testament told the future.

The believers used the info to send relief to the brethren.
Therefore it was used to help people.

The bible also tells us how to identify a false one.

EasyE is right. Biblical rationale is that demons have some insight into the future, and this would not be for the betterment of mankind as they would selectively reveal that which would cause chaos, death or destruction (or something false, possibly, as they are not bound to truth). This is also dangerous to the individual who communicates with them.

the Bible warns against communicating with spirits, because you are actually communicating with the devil/demons>
