I have been having tightness in left pec region. I have had 2 ekgs, a chest xray, and blood test, all of which came back normal.
I have had this tightness in my chest for 10 months now, it is chronic. Every doctor I have seen tells me there is nothing physically wrong with me. They told me to see a phyhcatrist. They make me feel like don't even care. I 'am worried sick about this pain. Does anybody have this, and recommend anything. Thanks:) Amy

panic and anxiety attacks can create heart type symptoms.i know from exp.......if dr you trust have ruled out physical, plez try psychiatric intervention...a good psychologist/therapist may help...if severe, meds may be appropriate.after 20 plus yrs w these attacks i had one that sent me by ambulance to er and a battery of tests...to confirm a panic attack

This is a serious question. I have had this and experienced the stress from having all the tests and doctor appointments, etc. If the doctors are ruling out a physical problem and you have had more than one doctor including a cardiologists tell you everything is normal, I would definitely think that stress/anxiety is a factor. I have anxiety disorder and it comes and goes with the amount of stress I am under at any given time. I do know anxiety makes you feel as if you are having heart attack symptoms and heart problems need to be ruled out but if you have done this you should contact a psychologist/psychiatrist and try to get to the root of the problem, sometimes medication helps. There are self help groups also, and sometimes just figuring out the source of your stress and eliminating that will do the trick. Good Luck! I have been there.

I am a 37yr old white male here in the Northwest of the USA. I also have the same exact symptoms as the poster and the guy from South Africa. Everytime they run a multitude of tests in the ER and via ambulance always coming back completely fine. Severe tightness on the left side of the chest that seems like a heart issue and sometimes causes me to pass out. They have diagnosed me with anxiety and panic attacks after over 12 ekg s (lost count), bloodwork, diabetes checks, stress tests via treadmill on the heart, counseling and the whole nine yards. They prescribed me a type of medication similar to Xanax that worked but only allowed it for 6 months and refuse to prescribe now even though severe symptoms are still there. I am unable to function in public or in stores somedays and it s pretty scary since I am a single father with 4 young children. I completely understand where you are coming from and I agree with the other poster about trying to do it without meds at first. They have there own nightmare problems plus you become dependent on stuff like Xanax building up tolerance over long periods. Could make the condition much worse in the future so be very careful with meds. I would lean towards you having a high stress life like me or in the case of the SA guy your living in an environment that is very stressful for white people so yours is most likely anxiety. There are natural herbs that can help also. Definitely get tested for everything under the sun to rule out a heart issue but research ways to lower your stress and anxiety. Good luck on your search and feel free to ask me any questions you like.
I am open to trading notes and things that have worked for me.

I have the same thing!, seen doctors and had tests and im supposed to be fine. The tightness feels as though it is located under my left set of ribs and I cant help but think that it is my heart, it is incredibly worrying. I have also had mine for 10 or 11 months now. If you have any success I'd love to hear from you. Im a 23 year old male from SA, comment with an email address if you would like to trade notes, I could definitely use someone to chat to that is having these symptoms.

Many people with anxiety disorders end up having multiple EKG's and many trips to Emergency Rooms. They often times believe it is a heart attack. It is not that these people do not care what happens to you, but they are honestly giving you the best advice they have available. Psychiatric care does not mean you are "crazy". It means you have a problem that requires the help of a specialist, who is very familiar with your signs and symptoms and the medication you may need to treat it. Stop worrying...it only causes you to be more anxious and starts the vicious cycle again. Call and see if your medical doctor will see you and get you started on some medication - or refer you to someone who can help! Good luck!

The thing about anxiety is you think you have something else wrong with you that's what anxiety is. And sometimes you can, so when it comes to health anxiety i beleive theres no harm in being a bit of a hypocondriac and getting everything checked out. But if your anxiety is with other stuff it's pretty useless.

:( ah that sucks. I remember I was sick and was throwing up constantly when i would eat.. i didn't have an eating disorder.. i just wasn't able to keep my food in my stomach for long... so after being rushed to the emergency room they found nothing .. my mom took me to this lady who rubbed my stomach(not a joke) she made my intestines make noise by rubbing my stomach hard and stuff...i seriously felt better after that.. you probably have air? ... try to eat differently. You can be skinny but that doesn't mean you won't have problems. Oh and it can be your medication to. I don't think you have a mental problem though.... doctors can be stupid sometimes. they're all about the basics ... don't blame them though.. they were taught and don't want to know anything they haven't been taughted(some doctors) so just try to eat differently . have you tried praying?:) just eat differently if it continues try to get on other medication.. maybe that's what's triggering it! Goodluck and I hope you feel better! Maybe you're allergic to some foods?

If you had heart disease, they would have found it. It's anxiety. It's not that they don't care, but they don't have time to sit and listen to you talk about how scared you are that you have heart problems when they have already told you that you don't. If you truly don't know how to settle yourself down, than you may want to speak to a counselor or your family doctor about the anxiety. Try to do it without drugs.
