Great question! I always wondered the same thing!! Based on some quick research I did just now, apparently Hamburg is an area in Germany where Hamburgers originated. In Germany they had a tendency to name snacks after their place of origin. It seems that this has a lot to do with the "ham" connection.
Well, now we know! :D
