The doc's said do disinfect everything the dog has come in contact with, with a bleach solution 4 oz of bleach to each gallon of water. How am I going to use a bleach solution on my furniture without ruining it? And does anyone know of anything else that I might be able to use on the furniture instead of bleach?

Fetch is so wrong on this one. When it comes to Parvo there is no such thing as over kill! Period. Parvo is the number one killer of puppies. And for all you people asking why immunizations were not given. Even the Parvo shots do not protect 100% of the time, plus there is a 2 week incubation period, so the puppy could have gotten the Parvo before this person got the puppy!!! Why is everyone so quick to be so judgmental?????
There are 122 Oz's in a gallon, so 4 Oz's of bleach is not very much and should not bleach out any furniture or carpet. An easier way of measurement iS 1 part bleach to 30 parts water.. There is almost that much bleach in your drinking water!! The only other thing I know of that will kill Parvo is a product called Parvolan, but this is mostly for kennel or Veterinarian hosp. use. It is what you see the Vet using on his examination table to clean between pets. I don't know how it would do on your furniture or carpet. Put the 30 to 1 bleach in a spray bottle and spray everywhere your puppy was. Even if he just walked there. Use and bucket and mop on floors without carpet. You should also spray your yard with the same solution. Nothing like Lysol, Pine sol or any other sol will
kill Parvo!!! Please take your Vets advise and use the bleach. I hope your puppy makes it. If not, Please don't bring another puppy into the environment until you have disinfected completely. Parvo can live in yards for years! Sunlight and heat does not kill it. Rain will dilute it but not get rid of it completely. I wish you good luck. Parvo is heartbreaking.
Pharfly is also wrong. Although Parvo is indeed spread through feces and urine and other body fluids, it can be carried to the furniture on their feet, saliva, your hands, your shoes ANY AND ALL direct contact. It is NOT airborne, but nothing is off limits when it comes to Parvo. Good luck.

If you have fabric covered furniture then you need to steam clean them. If it's leather, I'm not sure how you would go about doing that. But yes, you do need to bleach absolutely everything that can be bleached. Even that doesn't kill the virus completely, there is nothing on the market that gets rid of Parvo 100%. Parvo will live up to a year without a host. Meaning anywhere that the puppy has been, the Parvo will remain for up to a year. This includes your yard.
Check with your vet to see if they sell Parvo cleaning chemicals, or if they can get them for you. But honestly, these are no better than bleach and steam, we do use all three at my clinic though. Good luck and I hope your puppy will be okay! Make sure you keep your pets vaccinated in the future to prevent this from happening again.

I had two pups with parvo, apparene were incubating the disease when I brought them, they spent a week in the vets, bt my vet said, bleach was no good, and it needed to be a certain disinfectant, cannot remember the name of it, but household cleaners are useless against it, and also was told it could hang about for years

Althogh Parvo is a tenatious and deadly virus, bleaching the furniture is a bit of "over-kill". Although Parvo CAN survive for long periods of time in the proper settings, it cannot survive in heat or direct sunlight for long periods of time; wash the furniture as you normally would and then take it outside (to an already disinfected area) in direct sunlight for the day. Then keep your dog off the furniture until its own Parvo treatment has run its course.

Parvo is spread throught infected feces and the only thing that can truley kill parvo is bleach. Whenever we had a parvo outbreak we'd bleach the whole shelter. If the puppy didn't poop on your furniture it should be safe, maybe rent a steam cleaner with the furniture attachment and give it a good steaming. I hope your puppy pulls throught!!!

You could try Lysol liquid concentrate.

Parvo is a very dangerous and contagious disease. I have read that you should not get another dog for a year after having a dog with Parvo so you can be sure the germs are all dead. It is also recommended that you burn your yard or saturate the soil with bleach.

You might want to consider getting new furniture. Next time innoculate your pet.

You will need to spray absolutely everything with Lysol. Saturate your carpets with it. Parvo is a VIRUS. Wipe down every surface, spray, mop, and make sure you do your yard as well. Make sure you even spray your shoes. Bleach is fine on the yard..better to kill your grass than another pet. Be sure that you do not bring another puppy into your home for a year.

Let me give you some advice from my very personal experience. I had a 8 year old rottie, she ended up having puppies w/my chow, then she got sick w/parvo n ended up passing away. this was after the puppies had grown. My vet told me to bleach everything, and I did, except for my couch. My 2 yr old rott/chow mix ended up getting infected w/Parvo and passed away. She was the only dog who had been in my house, and the only one who was infected..take it SERIOUSLY. Good Luck!
