We have 2 chihuahuas and they're six months old. They have no problem holding their bladders from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am. We both work and leave them inside with free roam of part of the house. They use pee pads, but will they ever stop needing them? Is it too long to leave them in a crate from 7:45 - 4:15 every day?

it must be extremely undesirable for her to hold it that long. If she does for any length of time she ought to strengthen serious scientific issues, consisting of kidney and bladder infections. My ultimate advice is to work out if a neighbor or pal can come over interior the process the day to enable her out. additionally attempt walking her for about 20 minutes a minimum of earlier and after artwork. I extremely have a golden retriever (9 months) who can carry it for 10 hours at evening, yet even although i understand he's bodily able I make him upward thrust up and go. we've a doggie door and that i've got self belief that his wellbeing and actual standards are greater substantial then the protection of the homestead. in case you're worried approximately it you will get a variety of magnetic doors the place she has a magnet on her collar that opens the door, yet no longer the rest can open it. you are able to no longer practice her to hold it that long. that's inhumane and harsh.

Dogs are like humans when they need to go they will tell you, like asking a teacher to use a restroom, usually they will wimper and call for you. Use treats to reward them if they dont pee in the house, eventually there will be a pattern growing and they will know they will get the treat if the don't pee the house.

Important: whatever you do... dont hit the pups they are like children they will learn but not if you treat them cruel.
Hope this helps

They'll probably always need them. They are tiny dogs with tiny bladders. If you take the pads away, it may cause stress on them because they won't want to go in the house, and this can also be kinda painful for them if they hold it too long.

I think that is to long of a time to be left in a crate, you could have someone you trust to come over and take them out at least once while you are away. Also Chihuhuas are very hard to house- train that is my experience and what I have heard from breeders.

It's quite a long time...especially for pups. I would think about getting an outside kennel at least for the warmer parts of the year. It's kind of harsh to have them stay inside without going to the bathroom for all that time.

Nice to know that you let your dogs roam about in the house, you are truely a dog lover.

I do not think train them to hold their bladders is a good idea.

You need to toilet train them to pee at a desinated location. Or just enclose tham in a room.

they probably go to sleep at 9:00pm. since chihuahuas are so small, their bladders are too. it is kinda too long to keep them in their crate. just keep using the pee pads

Yes it is too long....what i did with my yorkie was everytime he forgets to pee on the "peepad" I would spank him and point him to the peepad. Everytime he does it right, i give him a treat...i have a backyard, so nowaday i just leave it open for him to go out when he needs to.

I am not sure if ya can. Just get them a litter box and train them to use it or have them go before you leave or get a doggy door or put them outside before you leave.
