the Jews could go to their yearly feasts and spend their tithe on feasts which included many things including merriment of drink... i.e. as you say and it is part of the law of Moses

Moses permitted it it in the torah...he did not recommend or require it, but God clearly likes people to remmember Him in parties eh... Jesus went to quite a few parties in the gospels
