Everybody has an accent! It's unavoidable - you have an American one, I have a Southern-English one, but they're still accents..!
If you just want to hear other 'accents' on your trip to England you'll be happy - you'll hear accents not just from the UK, but from all over the world too..!
But don't expect sunshine and roses - people are people the whole world over, and Britain is really not SO different from any other country..!

Didn't you know that people from America have accents too? The long Texan drawl and the NY accent are very different. Do come over some time, it's a great country (but there again, I'm biased).

Depends what region of the UK your class mate is from... Most American films portray the British as having a posh accent and that isn't the case.

People in the UNITED KINGDOM arent just from ENGLAND, we have WALES, SCOTLAND and NORTHERN IRELAND too - really pisses us off to be classed as ENGLISH!!!!!!!! (Nothing against the English but would they like to be called Scots or Welsh all the time?) Nope didn't think so. We are all BRITISH.

If you went to Newcastle you wouldn't understand a word. and I bet you wouldn't find it so cute either, especially if you were lost and desperate for an answer in the middle of the city centre. (happened to me once on a visite there).

no they don't have accents. It's their language - they spoke it before you, so in fact, you're the one who has an accent not them.
