I've noticed this time and again with some of my questions, many people refuse to think hypothetically. Sometimes I wonder if they even can.
I asked "What if your religion was disproved?", and all I got was "that's not possible" (Aside from some free thinkers), "I just try to be like Jesus", which entails do you believe in heaven? Cause if you do, then it's religion. Or I got "God is right, so he can't be disproved". Do you realise that you only believe he is right and true, that there is no solid proof that he is, that it's merely a theory? I subscribe to the theory of evolution, but if it was disproved then I would believe in whatever they came up with next, or even intelligent design. This even goes for the atheists though. They refused to think "What if a god was proved to exist, just no specific one".
Yes, I know it's not possible to prove a god, apparently, so you can't disprove it. But USE YOUR IMAGINATION THAT IT HAPPENED.
So, do you refuse to think about hypotheticals?

A hypothetical doesn't have to go with sense. A hypothetical can require thought beyond realism (Sounds like christianity!).

okay I will try and answer both questions here.....
First, What would you do if your religion was disproved?
Like, beyond a shadow of a doubt in your mind it became completely inplausable for your religion to be possible, what would you do? Would you convert to another religion or continue believing in the religion in denial
To answer this one... In a hypothetical sense.... I do not know. To ask me something like this would be like asking me, "what if your child was on life support and the doctor said they were brain dead. Would you take them off life support or leave them on?" I honestly do not know. Both are hypotheticals. (Although the latter of the two is more likely to happen for me.) I won't know until I am put in that situation.
To answer this question posted here. I try to avoid most hypothetical questions to be honest. Unless it were a hypothetical situation that could very likely be possible. I mean what if questions to me are redundant. What if??? What if the sky was polka dotted and not blue??? I do not mean this is a nasty sarcastic way.. I am just saying this is the way I look at most hypotheticals.

I believe that you are a very confused person. And I don't mean that in an insulting way. Christianity is not about using your imagination. It's about deciding that the Bible reveals the truth concerning our existence, and our destiny, and coming into agreement with what it tells us we should do about it. It's not about, "let's see, what kind of creative new story can I make up in my mind that might be true?" That's all speculation.
Christianity and the Bible is about knowing what is real and true. People are continually asking for evidence and proof. A Christian accepts the Bible as evidence and proof. Apart from the Holy Bible there is no way to know anything about the one true God. And upon studying it closely, one can see that it is not in opposition to true science, only lies that are purported to be true science. I refuse to think hypothetically when there is no real purpose in it. When I have the real deal sitting in front of me in the pages of scripture, why would I want to play "land of make believe" like this is "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" or something? We don't need a dream sequence to discover the truth - we already have it in the pages of the Bible. It's other people who have not been willing to accept it long enough to find out that it is true, and that's why they think we're crazy.
O.K. here's a hypothetical for you. Let's say that I found a secret passage into another realm or dimension, and nobody knew it was there because it is invisible. The only way you could pass through it is if you believe it is there first (sounds kind of like "The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe" doesn't it?). Would you believe in it long enough to pass through it, or would you insist on visible proof first? To insist on visible proof is not belief, and therefore doesn't allow you to pass through. What do you think? Pretty good, huh?

seems to me you are terribly preoccupied with the God thing. I understand christians being preoccupied becuz their friend got left them a note to tell others who might also want to be His friend.
You however do not and you are happy with the way you have things thought out so why pose hypothetcals why not just go your happy way.
I understand some thinking that christians as a group have caused wars and other unpleasant things but it seems to me that anyone with half a mind knows that the chritians were used by people who had an economic ageanda and used the chritian prestige they had personally to mislead these poor deluded people.
If you really do not want this kind of thing to happen again then I suggest that you read those scriptures that their leaders keep secret. Here are a couple you can use Mathew the 18th chapter. Then there are the two sgort epistles to Timothy. These are the passages that the very people who use christians keep a secret.
if these passages were used then our old friend Bush would either have to apologize and mend his ways or be kicked out of the church. Fight them with what they believe not what they do not believe.

So, do you refuse to think about hypothetical?
I think this is the question.
I haven't seem your questions but they sound like fun. I am a Bible believing christian so for someone to disprove my beliefs they would have to disprove the Bible. That's hard to do but lets say it happened that someone disproved it enough that I agreed with them. I would then have to rely on prayer and meditation. I have a very close relationship with GOD through Jesus Christ. This is a fact. So whoever I am speaking with and listening to all day would be all I would have to rely on. And the religion part of that relationship would have to go by the wayside.
You can't disprove someone who is there. You can see him or you can't. Its like telling me that someone proved to me that my children didn't exist.. What would I do? I don't know blow my head off? I'm not sure.
GOD bless ya

I just logged on and didn't have a chance to read your question. It's a good one though. It's pretty deep I must say. I would be speechless if everything that I was brought up to believe was actually wrong. I really don't know what I'd do. I think that all of those big questions that I've asked myself about God would be answered. I do know that there would probably be some kind of mass hysteria in this world. I think I could adapt to something of that nature but I don't think the majority would. There would certainly be a lot of depressed people in this world.

I can think hypothetically. Here's what I think about your first question, then I will answer this one. If my religion was disproved (just as evolution IS) I would simply decide it would be better to not be born, and unbirth myself so that I had never existed. (how's that for hypothetics???)
Now to answer your question about proof of God. There is indeed proof; In 2 Cor 12:8-10 Paul says: Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But he said to me, "MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU, FOR MY POWER IS MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, SO THAT CHRIST'S POWER MAY REST ON ME. 10That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. FOR WHEN I AM WEAK, THEN I AM STRONG.
It may be hard for you to understand, and even impossible to believe, but when God pours out his grace on someone, his power is felt, when God takes over and destroys a stronghold that has held one captive for years on end. This in itself is Proof Positive that God exists. I think that it is way cool that God reveals, and proves his existence to each person individually. What an intimate and personal way to prove himself. That those who believe might believe more, and those that don't believe are kept blind to it.

not at all...
I think about them all the time
I find the Bible to be sound and reasonable, I think there is a compelling case that Jesus in fact is the Messiah of Israel,
a compelling case for a worldwide flood and a awesome creation fo God making man outta dust and destining him to become higher than the angels thanks to and through the work of Jesus on the cross
I think we will even have questions in heaven, we will in fact probably spend forever asking question and learning more about the God who we will enjoy more and more for ever and ever
We are after all finite and He is infinite and like a person trying to sip an ocean with a straw the new and excitign questions will never end
like... is this real? like wow!!! yes it is
like... what did I do to deserve this? and realize I should take off my crown and throw it at the feet of Jesus

I love the hypotheticals, and I tend to ask them quite a bit. I enjoy thinking outside the box, and seeing how others answer the same questions.
Hypothetical questions are a great way to see what makes others tick, to see the mindset of the masses, etc. They are entertaining as well as educational.

Too often the hypothetical questions on this site don't follow good, sound reasoning, and are, therefore a waste of a thinking person's time. I choose to spend my valuable time on things that have some lasting value--not "tickling the ears" of the skeptical.

I have a roomate that does a lot of analogies and hypotheticals, I can't stand them. It's boring if overdone. I might allow one a day. But that's iffy. It's kinda like how I feel about Reggai music. Extremely sure I don't want to hear it.
