our dog is 3 years old. he is pretty well behaved these days but a bit stubborn.

The dog is trainable. The "stubborn" streak is typical of the breed. Fox terriers do not give in to owners they don't respect. To earn the dog's respect, you have to be firm but gentle, consistent, and self-controled. No yelling, hitting or other "out of control" behavior. When the dog can trust that you are good leader, he will follow.

Yes you can. Even at his age( threes not that old) you can still train him. And define stubborn for you.....stubborn for you might be different from my defintion. I suggest obedience classes or a crate confinement on training methods( crating is not cruel!). If you have a loal Petsmart or Petco they offer obediene classes( i know petco does...)

yes it will just take patients, they are very stubborn so you have to make him think its his idea, example give him treat whenever he does anything special,to encourage him to do it again and again. do you want him to sit up that is not a natural position its in not good on their backs if you make him do it to much, just praise him and use treats.
