Silly as this sounds (perhaps) write a book on training Collies. I am sure your mom is not the only one wanting this information and she can have the first book signed by you. Will give you a hobby to do this winter. Also, if she gets a Collie you could possibly take it to the park and train it each day if you have time. Hope you find a place where you can get another dog soon. I get the impression you are missing having one.

.

If your mum really wants a dog like a Collie she had better be prepared for two years training . .mine is great, farm bred from Ayrshire in Scotland but needed a lot of teaching.
They are so intelligent though it is worth the while bonding . . they love their master and can't do enough to please them.
Alternatively a re-homed dog is wort thinking about as some people cannot stand training them and give them up.

Shame really . .

Hope all works out for you both

How about giving your mom the gift of pre-paid training lessons for the dog? Someone else could train it; it wouldn't be with you (in violation of your renter's agreement); and your mom would have the trained dog she wants.

If i am reading your question right, then you could train your mother's new dog while at her house.....its a shot...since you can't have one where you are at now. Or say move in with her for the time it will take you to train the new dog/pup.

If you end up getting her another dog, then you can take it to PetSmart. They train animals pretty cheap....That's what I would do.
