I have heard that the dent in the can can rust, therfore cantaminating the food. It is probably just a myth though. Unfortuanetly the MythBusters have not tackled that one yet.

I do not know for sure, but, my grandmother used to say if a can has a dent or wrinkle in it at the store, not to buy it, cause it would not be any good. So, that just always stays in my mind..I do not eat anything out of a dented can because of her words.

Not at all.
A dented can just means the stock boy was careless.
A bulging can is what you want to stay away from. A bulging can means there is bacteria growing inside of the can and releasing gas.

No. The way to tell if a canned good is no longer good is to check the top of the can. If it's popped up instead of flat then the contents have spoiled.
