If you qualify for TANF, you should be able to receive the maximum amount in pell grants and loans. Go ahead and complete your fafsa and when you finish it will give you your EFC (expected family contribution). It should be low to 0 dependent upon how much money you made last year. Also, check with your case worker, there are some funds available through certain work readiness programs to help get you through school. They normally are not publicized so you will have to ask. Also, ask the school you're interested in about scholarships they offer. I received a $25,000 scholarship that was need and merit based and one of the things that qualified me is the fact that I am a single parent. Also, register on Fastweb.com. After answering a series of questions, they will email you scholarships you qualify for. A lot of these are asking for essays awarding money that goes unclaimed because most people are too lazy to write an essay. Don't be one of those people and let this free money get away. Finally, be encouraged. You're making great strides going to school. Keep your head up,stay focused and you'll go far. Email me if you'd like additional info. Best wishes!

Check with your TANF worker, usually they will help with child care and some transportation costs depending on your State policies.

You should talk to your worker about joining the Workfirst program and finding out the details about it when it comes to schooling.
