I have been overweight for a long time, about 5 or 6 years. Currently I am 15, male, and weigh 215 pounds. My BMI is 34.7, which puts me in the high risk category. I am scared ****. I have tried making better food choices in the past, but my father doesn't get it. He will purchase fruit when he goes shopping, but not enough other healthy things. He is an excellent cook, but only cooks stuff that will make me fatter. When I have asked him to cook healthy meals consistently, it only lasts a day. I don't have time to cook, I am in all advance classes, and I am in a band. I find it wierd that my doctor has not mentioned anything to me at all in any of my visits about my weight issue. I have brought it up, but it feels like it just gets pushed to the side. No I can not switch doctors. I don't have any friends, so I am very inactive, and also don't own a bike. I've tried walking, but I find it boring alone. I hate sports teams. Please help me get healthy and fit.

You need to do your own shopping. Stop eating fast food, candy, chips and soda. Get into an excersize routine. Go on walks. Start jogging when you can. See if you can get someone to walk with you so it isn't so boring, or listen to music. Good Luck,

Ok I will help you put you must follow my advice exactly. First off you are lazy! The first thing that you have to do is change your attitude. Let the possibility of having a heart attack and looking bad be your motivational factor to change. You are young and you want to change so you are starting off in the right direction.

Once your attitude is set to loose weight and you are willing to do anything then you need to start walking (screw being boring). Do it anyway. I suggest at least a mile.

Now, go look at the back of anything in your pantry. You will notice that there is an amount of carbs on the back that is mandated by the FDA. If you take the carb count and multiply it by the section labeled serving, you will get a figure.

Take this figure and add it together with everything that you consume. Make sure you are adding the total and do not forget to multiply the servings. This will give you a number that you want to round UP to the nearest ten (Example 92=100, 43=50)

If this figure is to high you GAIN WEIGHT. If this figure is to low you LOOSE WEIGHT. The idea is to consume as few of these as possible. I suggest trying to stay around 50 per day.

If it so happens that you have eaten your 50 and you are still hungry then eat a meat to fill yourself such as a steak, chicken or tunna fish.

I went through this when I was a kid and it worked for me, so I know you can do it. You should see SIGNIFICANT weight loose in 2 months. The only drawback is that your energy level will be less, but this WILL WORK!!

Hope you do not think I am a dick, but this WILL WORK, so do it!!

Drink lots of water, eat smaller meals; better to eat five or six meals rather than three. Eat your last meal earlier(you are not as active later in the day). Make breakfast the centerpiece of your diet(diet meaning whatever you eat during the day). Cut down on processed foods(sugar, flour etc) Don't eat convenience foods such as frozen pizza, and of course stay away from fast food restaurants(subway would be an exception). High protein diets do make your body burn fat, but there are health risks. Talk to a doctor first. Buy a juicer and try drinking fresh juice such as carrot and apple. It is not a panacea but it helps. One thing that does help is to keep a journal and follow your progress. This will show results and help to motivate you. Wearing just a shirt rather than a shirt and a sweater will also help. Your body will expend more calories to keep your body at the same temperature. These things will help, but don't give up. You are only 15. You may be ready for a growth spurt that will bring your weight closer to normal.

First off, you do not have a weight problem. I am 20 and I weigh 150 pounds at 5'2". I love myself and I think normal people have curves. If you feel you want to better your appearance...than you have to do for yourself. I know having advanced classes and being in the band takes up a lot of your time.

But I can see that worrying about your health is taking up time too. Eat well, fruits help. You need to work out. there are no shortcuts in this. If you really want it..you need to go for it. run for 30 mins a week. Listen to music while running or something.

Bottom line...you can't change your appearance by doing the same thing you have always done.

Only a fool will continue to do what has always been done and expect things to change.--- Someone really smart.

You have got to change you lifestyle. You just described what is causing the non-weightloss. Inactivity for one isn't good. Whevever you eat, choose smaller portions. Never drinking soda pop just because it's there. Maybe some for dinner, thats it. Keep active. If you get bored with walking, try walking while you get something else done. Try working around the house, like raking the leaves. Do chores, be helpful. If you start to get bored, go do something to occupy your mind. And rember, dont choose to eat less and be more active simple to loose weight. Do that stuff because it's better for you and the weight loss will be a positive by-product. You were not put on this earth to just be inactive and consume food. Get out, get busy and enjoy life. Get involved with things. Goo luck

the doctors probably are trying to be nice and see it all the time I know how you feel i'm worried about my weight too >< I want to get down to a 12.1 bmi which is gymnyst level you can't hate all your options just find something that works for you or suck it up and walk by yourself and use an ipod or a gameboy while you do it or do something fun like try to call into a radio station while your walking if you have a cel phone whatever makes it not boring and gives you enough will to carry through it better then being alone and fat

OK, look 7, sounds like you have many reasons and others to blame for something you can take care of yourself. First be patient you did not gain the weight in a short time and realize it may take twice as long to lose it healthily. So what if you are board walking, do it anyway. Your weight has nothing to do with your lack of friends, look deeper into that could it be your whining.
People are attracted to confidence. Diets are really not good for you, a lifestyle change is what you need., along with a change of attitude. I believe in tough love and hope the best for you.

Is joining a gym an option? It is hard to stay motivated when working out alone. You might wanna get in touch with maybe even another over weight classmate at school and become workout buddies. As far as your dad being a Great cook it is hard to walk away from good cooking you might wanna try eating smaller portions. The fact that your searching for answers is good. You obviously wanna get into shape thats the first step to a healthier you. You might even wanna talk to your gym coach at school. He may be able to set you up with a workout buddy and possibly even help you get set up in a workout routine. Good luck on your first steps to a healtier you. Karen.

Well, your BMI is too high. But you didn't tell us your height. I'm over weight too, and at 53 and a woman, it's very hard to take weight off. I'm working on eating three meals a day, two snacks in between. Don't clean the plate, try sectioning it in half and only eating half. Drink at least 64 oz of water and try to exercise 30 mins each day. Watch total carbs from processed foods, fruits are ok. Try to eat more vegies, fresh ones, baby carrots, etc. I'm losing but it's slow. Dr's will tell you to lose weight slowly to keep it off. Give it a try and see if it works for you. Hugs

To lose weight, a person has to reduce the calorie intake by some amount by modifying their diet. A diet without sufficient nutrients will only increase the appetite of the person trying to lose weight. Since most people combine a diet with an exercise plan, additional nutrients are required for the growth of muscles required to increase the metabolic rate required for long term weight loss.
