Yes I am for the draft, but college and daddy is not an out! I believe all Republicans should have mandatory 2 years of service upon HS graduation! Especially rich ones!
The volunteer Army is to get someone to volunteer to die for you, if they happen to live they may get some benefits. In fact they bribe them to die for you!!
I got out after 8 years active, 2 tours and 29 months in Korea, and 1 year in Vietnam! I watched those drafted dieing! There is an old saying, you have to be alive to retire!
Yes I am a veteran of Vietnam!
The draft is Slavery? Defending your country is slavery? Well, don't defend it and we all can become slaves!
Hell, I feel like I am a Detainee right now!

I am fully behind a draft...for the NFL but not for the military. There will not be a draft anytime in the future. We are cutting the number of military as I am typing this. We won't have a draft because the American people don't want to pay for it. This is why we are cutting the number of people in uniform. I also would not want to work along side someone who didn't want to be there. I am a veteran.

First let me say this is a great question
To Draft or not to Draft WOW I am a Vet of the Nam ERA did not fight in Nam but inlisted during that era as for the draft only when this country is threaten on our land or the possiblity of a forien invation into this country.Military needs to be at full readyness but it dosent mean having the draft back. The Military can look to other resorces and Tech Military. We send space ships into outer space unmaned y not have unmaned Tanks Planes Ships and save life notdestory it.

Yes and no, I'm not really for the draft because I think it is a little unfair to force people into that hell hole, you may as well buy them a coffin now as far as I see it and I figure if you're giving guys a gun that don't really want to be there, well you can figure the outcome but at the same time I am for it because after 3 tours to Iraq already I think the current military members need a break and I think it would also give civillians a better understand for how much we sacrifice everyday for them. I don't know if you can class me as a veteran as I'm still serving and I will be back in Iraq for my fourth tour in January.

Yes! The draft was still 'on' when I enlisted in 1967, during the VietNam Campaign. I spent 12 years in the US Army & watched the process unfold during the era including draftees to all volunteers. The inital perceptions of an all volunteer army seemed very promising but it soon became apparent to me that it was not effective. The diversity of the personnel was limited from a wider cross section of society & the attitudes were much more mercinary. Sadly, the entire fabric of society has suffered with the failure to instill responsibilites of patriotic obligations. The absence of the draft inhibits the growth of discipline throughout the free world.

While i understand the purpose for the draft, i am against it. back in the day (WW2, WW1, Civil War, even Nam and Korea) women played a minimal role in the workforce. so when men were drafted and there were empty job spots the stay home women could fill those. but now, when women fill a very large section of the workforce a draft would be bad. taking all the men would open new job spots, but because more women have jobs now those empty places wont get filled. it would hurt our economy. and no, i am not a veteran. but if drafted i would have no problem serving.

I'm one of those people who think to enjoy the freedoms we Americans have, you have to know what it's like to not be 'free' so to speak. If a time came where we needed a draft I would support it. Hell, I believe that there should be mandatory military service, unless you have a legit medical excuse. To fully understand what it means to be free, you have to know what it's like to be told what to do, when to do it and how high you need to jump. No, I am not a veteran but I am a military brat, a USMC wife and was at one time thiscloseto joining the Army. But I got married and then had a baby. I wanted at least one of us to be home for our son. In a few years when my son is older, I will probably consider enlisting.

To answer your last question first: I am the mother of a veteran, who had to go at age 18 and who came back 15 months later with an injured back--after his return he found out that the military does not take care of their own when they are not able to be a soldier any longer..
Next, I am for the draft for several reasons:
First of all, it should be the duty of every able bodied man and woman to defend their country---and so I feel that every high school graduate should have to go to the military before they go to college. Another reason is the fact that the military does offer a lot of incentives for those who are out there in the streets. They not only learn the discipline, they also have the opportunity to better their lives---the military does pay for education(Montgomery bill). A lot of kids who go to jail probably would change their lives around for the better--I'm not saying all, but I am saying a lot.
Lastly, America is calling itself the superpower, but without a draft there is no manpower to count on. Those who are in the military do have to spend a lot of time at places like Iraq, the military has to be supplemented by getting units of the reserves and national guard into active duty status, and that leaves the motherland defenseless. We currently do not have enough reserves and national guard units in the U.S. to defend us if we were seriously attacked.
Re-instating the draft would reduce the current stress on the military, replenish our manpower, and give us more sources to defend our homeland in case of an attack. In addition, it would teach a lot of young people values like discipline, order, honesty, etc., and a lot of those who end up in jail/prison now would probably not end up there.
I am for the draft!!!!!!!!!!

I am against a draft because you would have people that are in, but are not interested in serving. Morale in the service would plummet, and you would have disciplinary problems that you couldn't begin to imagine.
And I am an Army Veteran.

I'm against, because the draft is just another form of slavery. You are forcing someone to work and put themselves at risk against their will. It's also bad for the service. It's better to focus training resources on a smaller group of dedicated volunteers, who will likely serve many years, rather than on unmotivated conscripts who will be gone as soon as the training sets in.
I am a veteran of the Army and served in Iraq.
