Because, like Christianity in Europe, they adapted things from the earlier systems of worship in the area.

Islam is not Moon worship. "Allah" is simply Arabic for "God" (or more accurately "The God"). Most peoples at one time or another used a lunar calendar. Cat Stevens wrote that song before he became Muslim. Muslims no more worship the moon because they have flags with moons on them than Americans or Chinese worship stars, despite having stars on their flags. For that matter--the United States, Rome, Russia, Germany and Albania all use the Eagle, yet nobody claims they worship birds.

This is the concept of God in Islam. God is the Creator and has no attributes from his creation. He is Perfect.
Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him) never said that he was god. He never said 'worship me'. To the contrary, you can find in the bible a reference where he bowed down.
Jesus bowed down in submission on the ground to God - {Matthew 26:39}
One last question, who in the world does the same when they pray? hint: Muslims
"Muslims", i.e. those who submitted to God's will, and they preached "Islam", i.e. submission to the will of Almighty God.

Allah was a tribal moon god before Mohammed created Islam. Mohammed relaized the one time Arabs didn't try to slaughter one another was when they were doing something religious. That's why he cretaed Islam. The god of Islam is not the same as the Judeo-Christian god, and his name is actually derived from "Ba'al". Imagine if someone re-wrote the Bible, put Zues's name in place of YHVH, incorporated things from other religions, and that's basically what Mohammed did with the Koran, only he used Allah instead of Zues.

Most calendars are lunar. Our months are based on the lunar cycle, then changed for conformity.

Do a little research instead of asking stupid questions and you will find out that Allah is the demon Baal spoken of in the Bible. The people who worship Allah are worshipping a demon from hell, because ignorance has kept them from learning the truth. And for all of you people who are offended by that, dig for yourselves and discover the truth. Matthew 24:24 says For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that,if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Chinese also use lunar calender.. but they not worship moon.
