If you live in Long Beach, CA...have dinner at the Queen Mary and watch the fireworks after.
If you live in LA you can check out the renovated Griffith Observatory and then have dinner at the Smoke House in Burbank.
This is just a few of a hundred ideas for a 1st or 365th date with the assumption that you would like this date to lead to a lover affair.

Breakfast. ...at a restaurant. It takes pressure off having to think what you're going to do after the date. And people are more real in the morning.

Coffee, because if either person doesn't feel it they can get out pretty quick, but if both are enjoying themselves it can progress to something more, as in, "hey let's get some dinner," , especially if you plan it so it is near a meal time.

sounds stupid but, it's fun to play miniture golf (you can wear your hot tight little shorts ) and then go for a water spot ( lake, beach ) you get the idea !
