There us History of People who intentionally starved others to death.
And even there is history of people who pretend to die out of starving and don't.
Both are called the same - POLITICIANS.

Robert Gerard Sands, commonly known as Bobby Sands (9 March 1954 – 5 May 1981), was an Irish republican who died on hunger strike in the prison officially called HM Prison Maze but formerly known as Long Kesh (a name still used by Irish Republicans). Sands was the leader of the hunger strike and had been elected as a Member of Parliament during his fast.

Starvation is one of the most pain full and slow ways to go. The stomach will actually digest itself at some point.
It would take a truly dedicated person to do such a thing!
I have heard of it happening before, but only as a mental condition or a situation where there is no food.
