Make sure that your pets, both cats and dogs, are are treated with a quality topical. Try Frontline or Advantage. They are little bit more costly than the stuff at the supermarket but they are worth it. The products that you can buy over the counter do not contain a powerful enough medication or enough of it for that matter to be effective. Plus with the topical, you only have to apply it once a month.
Stay away from sprays, collors, etc. that are meant for protection against fleas. Again, most of them don't contain a strong enough medication and if they do, there isn't enough.
Buy flea bombs for your house. Make sure that they are a good quality.... usually cost is a good determinate.
Good luck

Had this problem years ago. Try to prevent them to start with by using a monthly systemic treatment on your pets. Costs a bit but well worth it. Since you already have them you need a treatment on your pets **AND** for the house. If you don't treat both you will just keep on having the problem. You can get sprays for both the pet and the house that last for a couple weeks before you need to respray. Check the pet stores for a real good spray for your pet- not just a flea bath . Good luck...Make sure all the pets in the house are treated as well.

Have cooks/orkin, etc come out and spray your home and yard. And use frontline/advantage on your pet. Don't recommend using bought products, you will have to do it all over again, because those products only mask the problem temporarily.
There is a product that you can get from your vet it's called Ektokyl. it works well, but can only be used in the home. You need to have your yard treated too.

I got a kitten a few months ago. I didn't realize at the time he was flea infested so of course I ended up with fleas in my apt. I looked on the web to get answers.. Remember """they are not suggestions by vets or proffesionals"" alot of people suggested sprinkeling mule team borax (laundry detergent) on carpet and furniture, let it on for a day or two then vacumn up and get rid of vac. bag.. this process dries up any eggs. and kills fleas..do not allow pet to mess with borax while the room and furniture are being treated, as for pet.. shampoos in pet stores for fleas. or bath the pet with dawn dish liquid.it really works...(keep out of ears and eyes) I bathed my cat once a week like this for 3 weeks . Too many baths can dry and irritate the skin... we are now flea free thank goddness!!! If the pet is scratching itself to the point of scabbing or bleeding then you really need to get it to the vet....

Make sure to rid your animal of fleas as well. Use flea "bombs" in the house making sure to remove any pets inside. Treating your lawn for insects can help as well. Ask your vet for flea medication for the pets (all of them). Major cleaning is required after the "bombs" do their thing. Lots of washing clothes, drapes, cleaning floors & furniture too.
Have fun!

Flea bomb the house. Then use a product like K9 Advantix or Frontline Plus, etc. so that it will help keep the fleas out once you've bombed them.
