What ever else you do be sure to photograph the cake! If you get a really nice picture you can frame it and hang it for all to see. Otherwise you might try looking for a company that will freeze-dry the cake. This would remove the moisture. I don't know if it would cause it to become really fragile or not but it might be worth looking into.

I honestly don't think you can preserve a cake for a lengthy time, mainly because of the thickness of it. Now, flowers or a cake decoration is another story. Why not take several pictures of your teapot cake, & include your friend & yourself in at least some of the pictures. Pictures take up much less space, last a lot longer & keep a more accurate account of the moment. AND they don't get stinky, buggy or moldy! Good Luck!

Real flowers are not an edible food product. I'm probably wrong but to my knowledge there is nothing you can use to preserve its original appearance. First of all you would have to allow it to dry out completely, and it would of course lose it's shape, and probably rot in the duration. I won't give my age but I still have some birthday cake flowers preserved in my freezer for over 25 yrs. now. They still look the same, but they don't take up as much space as a cake would either.

The only thing I have ever heard of that could preserve flowers is Aquanet hairspray although I am not sure it would work on a cake.
