If you want the recognition of the WTF, you will have to pay for it.

I hope these fees include your Kukkiwon certificate. If it does, its not that bad.

He is still making a lot of money but I know some schools that charge $400 -$1000 for 1st dan. It just goes up from there.

Ask your self if it is worth it. If not, don't test you. You will still get better. If you hope to teach Martial arts professionally some day, either find a cheaper school or bite the bullet.
A 1st dan Kukkiwon costs $75. I think a 2nd is $100.

Taekwondo is expensive at high ranks. I am a 1st degree in tkd but im with the ITA (international taekwondo alliance), I usually pay $80 a month for tkd, but know i pay 40. it has something to do with me being in collage though.
other than that my testing is like $145

Nah, TKD is expensive. My 1st dan test is $316.00! After that the tests get higher, higher, and higher! I think it's highway robbery, but you have to pay some serious money to move up. But you get 2nd degree black belt, so it's awesome anyways.

My friend charged me nothing for TKD and belt ranking, we studied at his house. The JKA also only charged a registration fee, if I remember correctly. I have some blank rank certificates that I got years ago from a karate suppy house. If I remember correctly, it was about five dollars for about 25 certificates. Hope that helps.

all of my test for mine were combined
2 different styles = 2 different prices, unless you tested for them at the same time I paid around 250 for my first degree, 375 for my second and 450 for my third degree. now this is discounted cause i took both of my TKD and Hapkido test together each time

At my martial arts school the price gets cut in half when you get your black belt.

Remember your not just paying for the belt, you are also being registered with the WTF and registration is not decided by your master.
