Apparently I have misplaced my birth certificate, and I have no passport. It will take too long to get my bc because we have to leave next Thursday, and it wouldn't be here for 2 more days. So, I am a dependent, and have a military id, and I am on my husband's orders to Anchorage. What do I do???

Gee, real nice nswer that other person gave. Ohh by the way...they're WRONG.
Before the new rules kick in, you only need some form of gov't issued Id. If it has a photo, all the better. If that military Id you spoke of, is issued in your name, it's fine. To back that up, use a driver's licence if you can. Those "orders" however, will be of absolutely no interest to our Border guys. They'll just laugh and hand them back to you. They mean nothing to us.
As for getting through your own customs at Alaska, sorry, can't comment.

In post 9/11 USA, any citizen may enter Canada with a valid driver's license - however, US Customs will not allow you to re-enter the United States without a passport. Military ID - I don't know if that will be enough.

Google "US Department of State" - they have all sorts of information - including what you need to enter each country. Or call the nearest Canadian Embassy.

If you enter Canada without a passport, go to the American Embassy and have them issue you a new one as soon as possible.

And don't listen to that first guy - you are NOT stupid, and you WILL need a passport to re-enter the United States. Bring as much ID with you as possible - Social Security Card, Driver's License - whatever so a passport can be issued.

You can not get into Canada with just a drivers license. You need a birth certificate or a passport. Can't you fly to Alaska without going through Canada? What did you find easy about getting into Canada? That's too bad that it is easy to get here. We need to be more strict on our border control.

Get some temporary id from officials until your proper identification comes. Fly to Alaska that way you don't need to visit our border. Also keep better control over your documents.

That second answer is wrong. I don't know where that guy gets his information. You can NOT enter Canada with just a drivers license- if a guard lets somone in with just a license they should be fired.
