There are about 50,000 species of trees on the earth. In the United States there are about 680 native species of trees and there are around 4,000 introduced plant species in general either brought over on purpose for horticulture or inadvertently introduced, a percentage of that would be trees brought over intentionally to line streets and plant in back yards.

Well, have you ever counted how many trees there are on a square meter of forrest terrain?
If you know that, you can calculate an estimate. :)
PS: 980 million? I don't think so, there are over 6 billion people on earth? How could there be less trees than humans?
