Ok, here's the story:

I am a highschool Sophomore. I have been getting a really good vibe from this girl at school (for the sake of this question let's just call her Jane). Every day we're almost late for class because we're always talking in the halls. I was thinking about asking her to a semi-formal dance at our school. She is in no way out of my league. I was on the bus to school planning to make a move that very day. On the bus ride to school one of my best friends (this particular friend just so happens to be Jane's cousin!) tells me that Jane agreed to go to the dance with another friend of mine (we'll call him John). Now I really hate to toot my own horn but I truly am MUCH better looking, MUCH smarter, and MUCH nicer to Jane that John has ever been. I had no idea that John was even remotely interested in Jane. I really want to go out with Jane, and the only thing standing in my way is her current date. I don't think I value John's friendship so much as to give up on Jane.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not looking fo an answer like "Losing John's friendship is not worth some girl" because... YES IT IS!

Unfortunately, he beat you to the punch as far as this dance goes. Now, what you have to do is ask her out on a date anyway. The whole dance thing is done, but it's not like she's going steady with this "John" guy. Ask her out! Take her on a date, or to the next dance or whatever, but don't let this stop you, again, I emphasize, ASK HER ON A DATE!

Talk to her and let her know that you heard she was going to the dance with John, if she replies yes say something like, well I guess I was to slow, I wanted to take you to the dance but would you at least save me a dance. This way it leaves it up to her maybe she'll tell you plans can change and if all else it makes you look good for not trying to break in on her date making her uncomfortable and you could still get a good dance in. After all a dance doesn't mean dating, who knows what can happen and she will appreciate you not making the situation uncomfortable. Best of luck

Wel - just try to ask her out for something else than the dancing. Something informal. Like for an ice cream or a coffee or a pizza. Or just a walk in the park or a ballgame. If you talk with her a lot you may have already found out what she really likes (the zoo maybe or the beach or a boat ride or rollercoaster ride?) and if you don't know try to find out. And then....invite her to and afternoon to what she is craving for.

Then you can talk with her about dancing...and take the next opportunity to go dancing with her. If she likes it...you can say...hey it would be awesome to go dancing with you. Unfortuantely you are commited for the school dance but how about joing a ballroom dance class? (Or salsa class....whatever).

Anyways - there is one frog you my have to swallow. Women and girls have their very own taste and sometimes fall for the ugly and unpolite who are also into drugs and dumb and nobody knows why or understands that.
So - and because it is ultimately always the girls choice whom she is going out with she may decide against you. But don't worry - if this happens this is an important experience to make also.

But perhaps Jane simply did not know that you are interested in her and she might have hoped you would ask her out for the dance but she thought about you that you are too good looking and too smart and might not want to go with her.

Lotsa words...just go for it. She likes you.

The first question I have to ask is how long is it until the dance? The only way to undermine this plan is to get involved in a relationship with her. If you like her, you might as well go for the gusto. Otherwise, you'll just look like an *** for stealing this guys date.

Ask Jane anyway. She probably just said yes to him because you didn't ask yet! And if she's not one to hurt people's feelings, she might tell you no because she's going with John, but if she likes you, she'll probably want to hang out another time anyway. Just ask her. Either way you have nothing to lose.

Tell her the truth. Tell her you were wanting to go out with her way before John and he probably got the idea from you in the first place. Tell her she is beautiful and you would like nothing more than to have her as your date.
P.S I am a sophmore in highschool and am going to the Homecoming dance with my boyfriend nexy month.

Just walk up to Jane and ask her out who is to say she might drop the other guy to go to the dance with you. I have seen that happen several times. Smiles Good Luck!

well first of all are you sure she is going with John? or did he just tell you that? And maybe she was waiting for you to ask but you lagged. If she's really cool like you say she's still going to go with him even if you tell her that you were going to ask her. But maybe you can tell her you heard she was going to the dance with John and how that sucks cuz you were going to ask her. Maybe you can ask her if and when there's another dance she'll go with you that way if someone asks her she'll say no cuz she's going with you. Anyways you prob. are better than him but going with him she prob. thought would be better than not going at all.

Go with his cousing to the dance so you can keep an eye on Jane. After the dance, ask her out. It's never too late.

Just ask her out! If she really wants to go with you she'll dump him. BTW: girls like to be mistreated when they are young, that's why we get to be so smart in our old age & finish off with the good boys!
