It can seem like a long time, but you will see results in around 3 weeks. I am almost your exact figure and I happen to play both those sports, I lifted weights in the off season and after the second week I felt like nothing was happening, but I continued anyway. Once I stopped thinking about it a girl at school asked me if I had been working out and then I realized the results. It takes a while, I guess would be the main point of this answer.

At 6'1" and 150 lbs, you need to put some meat on that frame to see any results. Try protein drinks along with the lifting thing.

Give it 6 to 8 weeks of steady working out and you will see some results.

aproximately one month to actually see and feel those muscles. but it might take even less. but be sure to not overwork yourself and damage your muscles. give yourself about one or two days in between each weigh lifting session, and do something else instead.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but it will be months before you see a significant change.
