My guess is she was named after the state of Georgia.

I do not know who she was named after, but I do know this....Georgia O'Keefe and Virginia Woolfe were very similar in many ways. They both had the same depression disease and they favored each other very much. If you place pictures side by side of the two you will see a great resemblance. Also, when Virginia Woolfe wrote one of her famous stories about a lighthouse, Georgia O'keefe had painted a picture of a lighthouse that related to the book. Note: They never knew each other. It was as if their lives were repeating one another. Woolfe was a lesbian and I believe O'Keefe was, too. Don't quote me on that, but they both were unhappy in their relationships with their men. Even though this did not answer your question, but hopefully this gave you some insight on the artist that is so inspirational and was sensual about sexuality.
