She tells him that she would cook dinner, so come on over to her house. Yeah right!!! She then calls me up and the last moment to help her. just cause I'm a culinarian in training doesn't mean I have to be her personal Chef. I've told her this but she keeps doing the same thing. Now, I don't want to be mean but she have a date this saturday and in advanced ask me to help her. I said I would. But then there's this concert I really want to go to. What should I do. Can't do both because of circumstances

Uh, say NO once and don't back down.
Maybe you need to have an excuse as to why you are unavailable

Here is what you do, pick up the phone the night before and dial her number, she answers, Hey girl, I just needed to tell you I will not be able to make it over to help with the cooking thing, I was invited to this concert and they already bought the tickets so I am going to e-mail you some instructions of a good meal and a phone number to a good local takeout restaurant. if she is not there then leave it as your message, the following morning if she calls , don't answer it, go to your concert and have a good time. Good luck.

You know what girl, when the guy comes in and he's great looking, start saying how you lovingly prepared the meal (so the other girl doesn't get credit) and how you love to cook (shaming the other girl), and he will go for you.
Food is the way to a man's heart.

If you have already said you would help her this Saturday, you must do so. Can't you do some stuff ahead of time and have her stick it in the oven? Even I can manage to stick something in the oven. Don't do everything for her.
As far as her last minutes pleas for help. No way, just be unavailable. It is easy now. When I was young, we didn't have call waiting, but it easy now to avoid someone.
Good luck.

Make a casserole. Tell her to put it in the oven for however long and say, "Gotta go!" If she's mad, don't worry about it. You helped her, AND you got to go to your concert. After that, she'll probably never ask you again....this situation will make her realize that you have a life too.
Go live it! Enjoy the concert!
