Is anyone here from Austin? And can you tell me if there are any good bars/clubs within walking distance of the Marriot downtown?

You must go to 6th Street. Blocks and blocks of bars/clubs. They close off the traffic at 10, so the whole street turns into a big party.

i'm not from texas, but you gotta see the tower where that guy sniped like seven or eight people back in the 70's...we could only drive by, since we didn't have the time to stop and take a tour, but it's at the university in austin. they made a couple movies about it. we also saw the book depository where lee harvey oswald worked on our tour. you should go there...if you stand in the spot they let you stand in, you can see that it's really possible that oswald could have shot at the prez and actually hit him, though not the head shot. it's really emotional. i hope you have a good trip and thanks for the points!!

You can't go to Austin without going to "Scholz Garten," the oldest continually operating restaurant (and bar) in Texas.
