A gift is a nice gesture, but not necessary. It should be for the baby. It can be a religious gift, but since you aren't very knowledgable about Christian customs, you may feel more comfortable getting a basic baby gift - a toy, a stuffed animal, a baby book, etc.

Several people call a baptism a Christening but, it is the same thing where the child becomes a new creation in Christ. Yes it is a very nice gesture to bring a present for the child.
Barb K. You don't know what your talking about. Catholics call it baptism and they ARE Christians. Some Protestant religions that baptize call it Christening. Regardless, there is only one baptism weather Catholic or Protestant as there is only one Christ.

Christening is evil. toddlers do no longer sin and have no choose of repentance or forgiveness. Baptism is for people who're in charge for their strikes. merely manage christening as a social occasion. It has no valid religious meaning.

Christening is a catholic practice and not a Chrsitian one.
Christians do not cristen, they baptize, and only when a person who accepts Jesus as their savior. Babies do not get baptized. They do not know what a sin is until they reach the age of accountability and know right from wrong. And then they must accept Jesus as their savior, and become baptized.
