I have been a gold card user for a few years with perfect credit and I spend a few thousand dollars on it each month. I just got an email to upgrade to Platinum. Anyone else have experiance with this and should I accept the offer?

They've been trying to get me to upgrade to a Platinum for the last 2 yrs, and I've refused.

The advantage (not AAdvantage :-p) is that the cap on the number of miles you can earn per month is lifted. Also, if I'm not mistaken, there are some other cool stuff for being a platinum member.

The big catch for me is the increase in the Annual Fee, a $30 increase per year.

So, if you bump up against the cap often and don't mind paying extra/yr in annual fees, then do it. I don't use the card often anymore except to take advantage of balance transfer offers, and I have a hard time burning off the frequent flyer miles I do earn. So an upgrade is not for me.

Yes if you pay the balance. If you carry over then look at the percentages. I am a travel person as well and keep a "points" card for travel - BUT I NEVER CARRY A BALANCE!

That is the most important thing I can tell you!!
