no one is helping me here...the consulate/embassy tell me to "look on the website" but it's a disaster with no logical explanation. i have found a number of different suggestions as to what types of visas i might need (residency, work, etc) but nowhere does it say HOW to get these things. I was also told the italian company (im going to teach english) has to supply me with certain forms. does anyone have the correct answer? thanks.

If the company has given you all the correct forms, then you shouldn't be given any troubles by the embassy. I am an English teacher in Japan, also American. My company gave me my papers and the Japanese Embassy gave me no problems at all.

Ask someone ot help you correctly fill out the forms and then bring them to the Embassy. Ask the company you'll work for if there is anything else you need. I am surprised they are giving you trouble.

to travel for 90 day visit to Itlay you DO NOT need a visa no residency visa unless you have been there for 3 yrs if you have a letter from the school where you will be teaching you can stay in Italy for the duration of the contract you will be signing believe me it no fun working or trying to get residency in Italy the laws are very stingent i was born there and my non us citizen wife could only be granted 30 days visitor permit and within 8 days you must present yourself to the State police for fingerprinting and mugshot they constantly come and check up on you too
