Has anyone been on Ativan prescribed for anxiety for a long period of time? what is the average dosage? and does it really become less effective after time?

I take ativan, the answer to your question is yes. The more often you take it, the less effective it seems to be. However, if you don't take it everyday, or increase the duration of your dose - the effects will remain the same and you decrease the risk of building up a tolerance to it. That's what I had to do.. now every time I take my Ativan, I feel the effects of the medicine. I only take one a day, but when I'm really nervous or stressed out or need to get some sleep.. I double up on it, but I don't stay at that dose because I don't want to become tolerant to its effects. Hope this helps

I love Ativan! Next to Serentil it's one of my all-time favorite anti-psychotc drugs. Next time I'm institutionalized you're damn straight I'll ask for some by name. Powerful stuff! Can you hook me up with some dude? Seriously.

My mum used to take the small creamy coloured yellow ones, made by Wyeth Bros; she was on them for years - I think she took one or two per day from what I can remember .... and I personally believe that even though they worked effectively over time, I also feel that she became adicted to them over time too, to be honest ....
