I have just moved into rented accomadation where 8 previouse tennants rented, all of whom have had bad credit listings.

I have tried to open a bank account and get a credit card all of which, has been declined due to this problem.

what can i do, or who can point me in the right direction for allowing me to open a bank account when my own credit rating is good.

Contact the credit reference agencies. If the previous tenants have adverse effect on your credit you have to sign a statement of disassociation with the previous occupants and that will straighten things up.

All you need to do is to ensure that you are not linked to any of the previous tenants. If you request for a copy of your credit file, you'll see what the banks see when they run a credit check on you. If any of the tenants have been financially linked to you or if any of them is showing up on your credit file, you should contact the credit reference agency and ask them to remove these individuals and they'd usually do so except they have strong evidence that you are financially linked to these people.

You can obtain your credit file from experian or equifax - these are the main credit reference companies in the UK.

All the best.

you cant wrtie a note of dissaccociation from the previous tenants to equifax or experian those are the companies that deal with credit scoring inthe uk ... this will show on searches made by companies that you are in no way connected to these people and you will be based on your own credit .. of which the bank should offer you some kind of account until such times as your credit allows you the account you want .. x

Even if YOUR credit was bad, that shouldn't stop you from opening a bank account. Unless the credit bureau is mixing the previous tenants info with yours, the bank should never see their info anyway. You need to find out what is really going on.

Anyone can open a bank acc provided you have photo I.D and a recent utility bill confirming your address. As for the credit card contact equifax or experion online it costs £2 for a credit check to be done and posted to you then you can take this to the bank to prove your credit rating. If there is anything on this you dont agree with provided you have proof the bad credit is not yours you can write to them and they will remove them.

your social insurance number is your id in the world of banking
just try another bank. everyone starts with a blank slate after they
get into the real world. as long as you have a job and have not
made amny bad financial choices you should have no problem.

the bank doesnt care where you live. in the place i live, the people before me had gone thru foreclosure. thats there problem, not mine

again try another bank

the new residence you moved into had problems, but you are not responsible for this. to get a bank account or other services you need to get a letter from your landlord stating that you are the new tenant, [not involved with anyone who used to live there] date of move in. and that you are in good standing with the owner of unit you are renting. take this to any bank, phone of utilities you want to establish service with, proper id and you should not have any problems....if anyone refuses to assist you, ask for their manager and stand your ground.

You have your own credit history and they should not be denying you credit or a bank account. You have your own SSN. So therefore you should be allowed to aquire credit on your own merit not someone elses.

I agree with the previous answer. Credit follows the social security number, not the address.

That is illegal on their part. Your credit cannot be judged on other peoples habits. I would contact a lawyer. you may not need their credit, not with their cash.
