in the bible, it talks a lot about gold in heaven... and jasper, etc... these are things that MAN knows.. they have been idolized by man for thousands of years.. so if man wrote the bible, of course his heaven would be filled with gold...

im not trying to convert christians, they keep trying to convert me. they are already to brainwashed to convert anyways.. and whether it is symbolism or not, i would want heaven to be so great that you could not compare it to earthly ****... and man did not get guidance from god.. there is no "god of heaven".. so get on with your lives. you learn evil over many years.. not minutes from a books.. you define your personality, your beliefs, your actions from what wisdom you have achieved after many years of life. no book can tell you that..

well, gold just seemed nice to the guy who wrote that. Truth be told, he could have said heaven would be filled with jello and billions of christians would have believed it. That's pretty funny.

If you are an atheists, do you think asking silly questions about religion is going to somehow cause nearly a billion Christians world-wide to give up or question their faith?
Every Christian knows the Bible was written by men. However, they also believe the words those men wrote were inspired by god, written with metaphors so man could easily understand.
The gold metaphor was intended to illustrate that the thing man values most here on earth would be petty (no more value than the ground one walks on) compared to the majesty of heaven.

Revelation 21:18-21 (description of Heaven), And the building of the wall of it was of jasper, and the city was of pure gold, like unto clear glass.
And the foundation of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was of jasper, the second, sapphire, the third, a chalcedony, the forth, emerald
The fifth, sardonyx, the sixth, sardius, the seventh. chrysolye, the eigth, beryl, the ninth, a topaz, the tenth, chrysoprasus, the eleventh, a jacinth, the twelfth, an amethyst.
The twelve gates were 12 pearls, every several gate was of one pearl, and the STREET of the city was pure gold as it were transparent glass!
No, man didnt write the Bible, the Bible consists of Gods words, some were written through his apostles, like John, David, to name a couple...

In the Revelation of John, he states that he sees 7 golden lampstands (1:12), a rainbow encricling the throne (4:3), flashes of lightning, peals of thunder (4;5), seven blazing lamps(4:5), and a sea of glass (4:6). And then there is mention of many strange animals. These are verses that stick out in my mind about what heaven is like. Keep in mind that even though written by man, the Bible is God-inspired. And sine God created us, he knows us, and knows how to relate to us when it comes to things we may not be able to grasp or understand. So while a man written document may be filled with riches and gold like treasures, we need to keep in mind that the Bible is God- inspired. Keep in mind too, that heaven is also referred to as a treasure as is Jesus and the word of God, so therefore things like gold come to mind when people mention treasure and I believe that gold is more of a metaphor that God gives to us so we can understand the "treasure" of heaven.

Maybe when God said that he wanted man to have an idea of how beautiful heaven will be. Jesus also stated that Gods house has many rooms, I don't think we will each have a room, it may of been Gods way of saying there is plenty of room for everyone.
My little mind cannot even imagine what it will be like in heaven, for starters we will be in the presence of the LORD God and that will be enough for anyone.

If you read those sections carefully you'll see that that the author is using earthly descriptions to try and depict something that cannot be explained in earthly terms. Such as:
"and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal" (Rev 21:9).
The book of Revelation is full of imagery and a depiction of things in symbolic terms. The description of heaven is no different....

In the book of Revelation, there is a place where the streets are made of "pure gold, like transparent glass"...if I'm not mistaken, this is describing the new Jerusalem. Also, the foundation of it is made of twelve precious stones. The saying "the pearly gates" also comes from this description, which tells us that there are gates, each made from one gigantic pearl. This place sounds incredible...I can't wait to see it.
