I got a perm a while ago... months, and I colored it so most of the perm quieted down. But I still have curl that I need to get arid of in order to get my hair cut the way I want it. Now it has been pointed out to me that theres a chance that if you take a perm kit and instead of using the curlers, just put in the solution and leave it in... that your hair would straighten. Is this true? I need tips. Im 16 and I cant afford anything expensive and I can get free perm kits. Please reply ASAP

I AGREE WITH TH REST OF THE GIRLS WHO SAID COMB A PERM THRU. TO THE ONE WHO SAID JUST USE THE FLAT IRON, I SAY REPEATED USE OF THE FLAT IRON EVERY DAY CAN ACTUALLY BE MORE DAMAGING THEN THE PERM COMBED THRU. AND TO ALL U GIRLS FLAT IRONING EVERY DAY, KEEP IT MOVING OR U ARE JUST DAMAGING THAT SPOT IT'S BETTER TO HAVE TO DO THAT SECTION AGAIN THAN TO HAVE IT BUST OFF AT THE ROOT BECAUSE U KEPT THE FLAT IRON IN ONE SPOT TOO LONG.

ALSO PLEASE USE A THERMAL ACTIVE SPRAY IT PROTECTS YOUR HAIR FROM THE HEAT. HOT SETS OR SPRAY STARTCH ARE 2 GOOD ONES FROM REDKEN. JUST LIGHTLY MIST YOUR DRY HAIR THEN FLAT IRON.

it DOES NOT work the same way. the chemicals are completely different & do completely different things. a straightening perm has vitamins in it to relax the hair & "stretch" it out while curling perms are made with WAYY stronger chemicals to help hair keep the "shape" of the curl.

my suggestion is to let it grow out, especially if you got your hair dyed. i just really hope you didn't get highlights because perms & highlights will make your hair fall out in chunks. the salon you went to should have refused to do the dye if you had a perm.

good luck!!

dont do that!!! you already have chemicals in your hair.. you can prolly smell the perm already.. but the safest thing you can do is just straighten it with a flat iron. dont put any more chemicals..meaning hair color, BLEACH, RELAXERS. or anything on your hair. it will lead to a BIG no no.. im a hair dresser and i'll let you no.. if you had a perm and then you get a relaxer..well your hair will turn into mash potatoes..seriously!!! well not mashed potatoes but your hair will turn to muoosh!!! im sure the hair dressers can work with your perm. and then straighten your hair with a flat iron after its cut.. good luck. please take this seriously!!! the chemicals that we use for hair are so harsh you wouldnt believe what it could do.

When I used to be a stylist in a salon we used regular perm solution and just combed it through the hair to relax the curls. Make sure you follow instructions on the box carefully and rinse it well, neutralize and use a conditioner.

Wow! OK first off any thing else you do chemically is going to damage your hair.(unless you keep it short) But.......... if you do choose to use straightener use a wide tooth comb. only a few times lay the hair straight. leave it alone. follow it up with a professional shampoo and condt. Good luck!!!!!!!!

yes this is true but you may need someone to help you with this , use a wide tooth comb and once the step 1 processing solution is applied ,,GENTLY comb hair straight just enough to get it combed thoughroughly. sit still trying not to disturb hair, when time is up carefully rinse without moving hair much. i usually due this in the shower kepping my eyes closed tight ,, then carefully blot hair dry with paper towels,,, squeezing hair not ruffling.... the just pour on the step 2 and let it sit for its time and rinse it out thoughroughly .

~~~I have to say that Diva 1340 is exactally correct. I did the same thing when I was a hairstylest. Its more gental than the "hair straightener" that alot of people use,,,and yes if you follow the directions properly,,,you should have pretty straight hair in no time,,,,,,~~~
