I work with a bunch of women. Some of them are in their late 30's and 40's pregnant with their FIRST child.
That is fine, personally I don't care, but they get mad if someone calls them an "older mom."
I don't get why they would be mad, they ARE older moms!
If you are 40 and pregnant with your first child, then you are not old age wise, but you are old as far as the age range to have your first child.
They are not young moms, they are not average aged moms, they are mothers who were older than most moms when they got pregnant.
If you say an older mom would be someone in their 50's or 60's then that doesn't make sense, because it is rare a woman could be fertile enough to carry a child at that age.
Therefore, a mother who is in her late 30's and 40's is an "older" mom.
It justs like a pregnant 18 year old being called a "young" mother.
What do you think?
(I had to get it off my chest, lol)

Whether they are "older" in age, from their late 30's to their mid 40's having their first-maybe, second child or if they had turn 18 years old and pregnant, the fact of the matter is that they are going to be MOTHERS. Yes, the mothers in their mid 30's-late 40's are older then those in their teens and in their 20's, but, to be in your 40's is not considered old, especially if you have people out there living well over 100 years old. In my opinion, people who are in their 60's giving birth for the first or second time is a little too much for me to accept. But, to considered a 40-ish mother to be considered "too old" is too extreme and it is rude. And, there are women who has just giving birth for the first time in their late 50's-early 60's. (Apparently, you do not read the papers, because, if you did, you would have known that there was this woman who's the sister of the Guardian Angels Curtis Sliwa who just gave birth to twins-in her 60's!)
So, I am glad you was able to get that off of your chest about how you feel about women being old enough to or not to have kids. But, what happened if YOUR mom had you-and you were her first-in her early 40's after trying so many years to have you?
Would you see her as an "old" mom or would you just see her as mom?

Well how are they older if lots of women are doing it. They are just mothers. That really isn't that old to have a child anymore. Older is if they are past about 45. And an 18 year old also doesn't really qualify as a young mother either. 15 maybe. In this day and age so many more things are happening and becoming more acceptable. I don't know why people feel the need to classify everything. They are just pregnant. what difference does it make?

No, what you had to do was try and start trouble by posting this. You obviously like to tweak people's hot buttons and apparently are doing a pretty good job of it. A Mom can also indeed be someone at ANY AGE if she has had a child! Once you have had one, you are always A MOM! Stop referring to people at work or wherever as "older Moms" as all it does is incite the reaction I think you are secretly looking for. It would be the same as referring to someone as "That old person over there." Wake up and quit cracking wise! You sound DFA=Desperate For Attention.

I am 40 - and my youngest is 14 - so , yes, if I was having a baby now (as my friend is) I would be an "older" mom - but I probably wouldn't appreciate someone pointing that out anymore than you would want someone to say that you look fat!
Why do you need to label them at all? They are "expectant mothers"

trust me it's not like saying 18 is a young mom. older mom insinuates that u think they are old. why cant u just call them a mom. and an not 18 woman having a baby should be called a smarter mom instead.

Your looks start going the older you get .Woman want to stay young and young looking .Calling a women older makes them feel there losing it.

I think you are 100% correct in your rationing, but Moms don't ever like to be called older moms because that makes them look and sound old. Just appease them and be nice to them just say, moms that are your age have more understanding in raising kids......things like that. No need to hurt their feelings, you know they are already hormonal. I am hormonal right now and I am not pregnant and passed menopause.
