It would depend on the breed of dog, if it's an active dog & you're keeping it indoors is causing it not to do what it is meant to do, then I would at least walk it twice a day. But if it's a little doggy, running around the house plus a walk a day is probably sufficient.

If this is strictly an indoor dog with no place to go outside on his own twice a day may seem like a lot to you but to your dog, it is not going to be enough. Imagine holding your bladder for 8 to 10 hours till somone let you into the bathroom and then another 10 to 12 hours after that before they let you into the bathroom again. Your dog needs to be walked as needed when you are home, or provided with a place (some dogs can be litter trained) to go to the bathroom when you are not home. Depending on the breed of dog the amount of excercise need to maintain correct body weight will vary also.

I would say that on average walking your dog to eliminate waste should be happening at least four to five times a day, and walking for excercise should be happening two to three times a day.

I think walking him twice if you have the time and once if you just don't have the time. In the morning burns off energy and the dog is less likely to destroy things during the day when you are not at home. In the afternoon means it is cooler for both of you and helps with the bonding between human and dog - makes the latter feel like he is doing a job walking with you.

It will be better to walk the dog as much as possible, because considering the fact that he/she is spending most of the day indoors, a little fresh air now and again will really help esp with behavior.

It depends on the breed. Some dogs need more exercise than others, we walk the dogs once a day, but we also have play time in the backyard, throwing balls and running around, but I have larger, energetic dogs.

Before and after work should be ok but every so often it would be nice to take him for a long, special journey just for a treat.

It depends on the breed of your dog and how much excercise they require. You can give them walks, also, if you play with them in the house, that is another form of exercise. And even if you work with them on training is another form of excercise. It excercises their brain.

If you have a yard, you can let him out to do his business, otherwise you need to take him out several times a day so he can relieve himself. If you feed him on a schedule, then it will be easy to regulate bathroom breaks.
