tell them you have a date, and wait for their reaction. its hard to say what kind of reaction to look for but if you know them and notice a change in behaviour then i would say he likes you.

find a totally random person not associated with you and ask them to ask the person. do NOT get a friend to ask if he knows who your friends are

have a friend that you don't really talk to that is in the same class and have her ask him who he likes
