Yes it's great isn't it. I started sending back postal junk mail in the pre-paid envelope a few years ago and I never get any now.
However, in the UK you can apply to the Mail Preference Society for free to be taken off direct mailing lists.
As for email spam, if you are already getting it then it's too late. NEVER reply to it. NEVER ask to unsubscribe. This just tells the spammer that your email address is live and they will sell it on to other spammers.
The best thing to do now is to change your email address and use your current address as a throwaway address (if you have to enter it on a website for instance). Guard your new email address like you would an ex-directory phone number and only give it out to family and friends. Choose an email address that is unusual, long and difficult to guess. Spammers use programs that 'guess' at email addresses and send them out at random.

I am SO fed up! I called the 800 number to opt-out, but the companies found a way around it. Now they have me listed as a business and they send me business offers all the time! I get 2 - 3 per day. I have never owned a business in my life.
When I get #'s from the specific companies to call and be removed from the list, no one answers, or I get a recording saying there are too many calls.
P.S. Hilarious how many people don't realize you're talking about physical mail!

I don't even open Junk mail if it smells like junk, I just write on the front, return to sender.
If I have opened it, I do the same with the reply paid envelopes.
With Junk e-mail, I reply to the sender saying not wanted, or I contact their e-mail provider to report it. Most e-mail providers don't like their customers using their provided e-mail addresses for SPAM.

Actually, just contact the MPS (www.mps.co.uk) or in the US the National Do Not Mail registry. They are there to make sure you get no more junk mail, simply sign up on the list. Otherwise you are just telling the mailers that someone lives there and therefore it is worht them trying again.

Oh I love what you do with junk mail and I am going to do the same thing myself now and encourage all my friends to do the same, junk email, I never read any of it and just empty my bulk box every time I get some, usually about 150 per day, so annoying.

Yes, I started returning mail to the sender a few years ago and just for good measure wrote "save a tree" on envelope. It does put a stop to it.

I'm absolutely fed up with it. Since I've set the filter all my junk mail goes straight to the BULK and I just empty it without even seeing it. Easy.

That's a nice thing to do to get back at them. I'm so fed up with junk email also. I wouldn't have the slightest idea on how to get back to them.

Answer them all, keep 'em on the hook for a few months, then tell 'em to go take a hike! Result = You've cost them time and money, they've cost you nowt! But you win 'cause you have taken them for a ride!
