-->how hard is it to drive a tank?: Not incredibly difficult, but harder than jumping behind the wheel of a car. more modern tanks are (obviously) more complex and more difficult to drive.
-->is it easy?: depends on the model of the tank and your experience driving one. i mean, if you're looking for automated traction control, full tread ABS, and air bags, you're probably looking at the wrong vehicle with a tank in mind...
-->i was thinking about picking up one: Good for you, it's actually possible to buy one too. There are companies which demilitarize old soviet tanks which you can then purchase. sorry i don't have the link to their website off the top of my head, it was a great article in maxim though.
-->maybe a 1995 or 96 model: Unfortunately, you're not going to be able to buy a modern tank. they're classified. You'll have to look at getting an older model... just call it a classic retro vehicle. or better yet, just tell everyone its an M1A1 Abrams. Most people won't know the difference anyway
-->how much would that be? $20,000? is there a blue book value? : I believe that when i looked at the website that maxim posted that they were running somewhere around $60K to $80K depending on size, age, and how common the tank was. Maybe a google search will yield more, but you're definately not going to get it for 20K. The cost is more an issue of the company, since supply is low... basically it's a seller's market.

History Channel and Discovery have on permanent rotation a few shows on just tanks. Some just cover the tanks themselves, and there is a specific one that follows a full training class of Marines going through their basic armor course at Ft. Knox, KY.
Most of them say the M1 drives no different than a truck. This week I saw a new show on the Stryker and the driver described it as driving a very heavy car that has lots of power.

I doubt that is lots distinctive from driving a song laying digger with many of the windscreen painted out so as which you will purely see via a splash hollow. you does no longer be waiting to verify besides as with a digger yet on the different hand it does no longer be as appropriate heavy. the assumption is the comparable, you ability each and each song independently and steer by making use of giving one side extra ability than the different, or by making use of reversing between the tracks in case you want to spin around instantaneous. One person can force it by making use of themselves, you purely have extra so as that somebody can navigate and manage communications and somebody else can function the weapons. Tea bags do no longer take in diverse area. i don't be responsive to approximately there interior the U. S. yet here interior the united kingdom you need to purchase and force your guy or woman tank see you later by way of fact the weapons have been decommissioned, they often fill the barrel up with brass or do away with it. some gentle tanks have wheels and guidance somewhat than tracks.

Not hard. Great turn rate, good acceleration (at least, as good as a 68 ton tracked vehicle can be), and a pretty smooth ride. Just beware of other drivers. Beware of crushing them, I mean. The going rate on the A2 model is about 5 million and change, so you may have to take out a loan for the down payment.

My husband is a tank platoon leader and he's told me some about tanks. The technology allows you to see very easily. It's a rough ride though. um. they don't sell tanks to civilians they destroy the ones they don't want getting into enemy hands. Models come out every ten years or so and it'd be about 5 million dollars. GOOD LUCK!

Sadley if 20k is your price limit you couldn't afford to gas one up. The abrams gets a stellar 5 gallons to the mile (less in town) and the tracks need to be replaced every 3000 or so road miles .

well, you would not have to worry about getting hit, or in a crash. and if there was no parking, just make your own spot. As for the kids, they can all ride on top of it if the weather is nice enough.. Can you imagine going to meet someone, and instead of saying that you drive a "hummer" tell them to just look for the tank...

My husband drove a tank. He said it's not as hard as it looks. OK. tanks move on the belt chain things. im not sure what it's called hahah but anyhow. so you have the left chains and the right chains... you just basically stop the left chains to go left or stop the right chains to go right. wahlahh...!! =D thats it.
unless.. you're talkin about some kind of car that is refered to as a tank. that... i've never heard of.
